Looking at a stilo for next car...

i currently own a 1.1 saxo which i find very cramped, so in 12 months time it will be passed onto my sister and i will be given the option upgrade, going 50/50 with parents. Im looking at a used 1.6 stilo as a replacement for it. They seem cheap to insure and imo look the part. They also seem to be cheap to buy and fairly well kitted out(air con, alloys etc). I am 17 atm but i will be 18, nearing 19 at the time when i get it. What is it like driving it, and speed wise? I dont want a neck breaking acceleration, but id like there to be something there when i put my foot down. Any advise is appriciated. cheers.

Hi!

Nice choice of make and model

Have you also considered the JTD option as well?

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

good choice in your next car. you'll find that most people here are quite passionate with their stilos.
I've got a 1.6 myself and find that it's a very comfortable ride.Speed is adequate with 0-60 in around 10.6 secs and topping out at 113mph
Stilos are pretty cheap to insure and if you find a good dealer are reasonable to maintain

I've had mine for 18 months now and still love it

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

funny thing is, my 1.1 saxo is group 4, 1.6 stilo is group 5(?), cant complain though. 1.8 might be a tad too big, and im sure the JTD is, but i will try and get a few tests dirves before i buy a used one, see which one i like the feel of the most.

How much would i pay to get it lowered say 40/50mm, parts and labor included, a rough estimate?

And also, is it possible to get a 1.6 in yellow?

thanks.

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

the 1.8 has 133bhp and jtd has 115bhp but wih a remap they can easily be 155bhp and you dont have to declare it on your insurance because the only computer that can see its there is the computer that did it apprently! and they are group 6? Group 4 for a 1.1 me finks thats abit high! I prefer my petrol cars so the 1.8 suits me.. just had that slight more punch than the 103bhp of the 1.6!

Yes the 1.6 can come in yellow, you can get it all colours... have a look at Bo selecta stilo to c a nice yellow, hes a 1.6 too....

As for the springs matt has 50/40mm on cobra springs most people on here recomend eibach those dropping it 35mm all round, but again thats personal prefrence! But something to nb is if you get a model with aircon goin to low you can crack/catch the pipe easily! Springs cost around £150 for a spring kit and i dont know how much for fitting im sure somebody else can help you on that though!

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

The JTD can be compared more to the 1.6 than the 1.8. Same insurance group very similar performance wise. But the difference in MPG would make the JTD much better plus the ability to tune it the 1.6 is rather limited to what can be done cheaply the JTD can be tuned rather easily though.

With a remap to take it to 155bhp or 170bhp putting it in abarth territory while still getting great mpg. i know what id rather have. And i hate diesels but the JTD is just a great engine.

And the price difference isnt that much either in the 2nd hand market.

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

Id take you up on that offer Koola, but we wont be buying it until June time, which is when i loose my saxo.

Looking on autotrader, there arnt a huge number of JTD, and they are all much more expensive then the 1.6 :/
1.6:

JTD:
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW...ch_full=SEARCH

I do like the sound of the jTD thouy, being able to tune it and all, but i cant afford those prices.

How much did you all pay to get yours lowered, and by how much?

and also, how easy is it to fit a new headunit + would the speakers need replaceing if i did?

cheers guys.

Think my springs were about £130-£150, somewhere around there anyway, dont know how much it would be to get them fitted cos my dad did mine for me.

Head units are no probs to change, just need to buy a fascia and away you go! Speakers are a tad more difficult but not beyond the average person.

Springs are about that price! As for fitting costs, mine were done as part of an Angel Tuning package

Re: Looking at a stilo for next car...

Went and saw one today at a garage, just to have a look inside them etc(i like to plan ahead... :P) and have to say it is a nice looking car. Just a few questions i came up with thou...

1) What are the popular optiosn that most people generaly go for?

2) Rub strips, are they usually color coded with the car? as the one i saw it wasnt, and it being a 1.6(i was told, but it didnt have alloys and not much inside etc) i thought they would have been.

3) What sort of MPG could i expect from a 1.6? i wouldnt say i am too much of an agressive driver, but i do like the feeling of accelerating fast etc.

Thanks for the help guys.
