Hi Guys,

Being a student I'm worried about the cost to repair my '03 1.2 Stilo. I was driving back from the shop and the engine just started to shudder and is massively down on power. When I turn it on, it's okay for a few seconds and then starts shaking uncontrollably. Constantly having to drip feed money into this car but does anyone know what could be wrong? Is this a common problem and how cheap/ easy is it to fix?

Cheers guys,
Josh

Really could be any number of things but 'coil packs' would be my first guess.

Have you got any associated warning lights?

Hi,

Yes the engine light comes on if I dare to take the handbrake off. Do you know costings for a coil pack?

Cheers

Like most things it depends if you go genuine (tends to mean expensive) or non genuine or second hand. I think genuine ones are something around fifty or sixty quid each..

I would get a proper diagnostic done first before shelling out any cash on bits, fixing a problem on a piecemeal 'bit by bit ' basis can prove very expensive.

Thanks Martin, I'll give it a go!

If it does turn out to be the coil pack(s) have a look on eBay they can had for a lot less money.

I haven't changed them on a Stilo before (daughters run Vauxhalls not FIAT's) but they are normally quite easy to change too.
