Hello,
There is a part in front of the xenon bulb inside the headlight. But by time the transperancy of this part reduced and color changed in to yellow/orange. You can see it by the attached pics. Now light of the xenon bulb is getting thorough this part less.

What do you suggest abot this problem?

1) Opening the headlight and cleaning this part
2) Changing this part
3) Removing this part (if this solution what would be outcoming results)
4) Changing the healight completely

Thanks,

It appears to be cooked/burned. Dismantling the lamps and cleaning the glass that is discolored with a good glass polish or simple polishing compound should clear it up. I wonder why it's done that? Have you ever had the lamps apart and maybe got skin oil or some other contamination on the inner surface of the glass? HiDs burn pretty hot, so whatever contaminants are on the glass would probably be cooked or burned.

The inner lenses on my Stilo HID Xenon headlights are exactly the same. I've never found a way to cure it.

1) Opening the headlight and cleaning this part

The only way to open the headlight would be to separate the clear plastic cover from the black plastic housing. The two parts are melded together so would be very difficult to separate without damaging one or both parts.

2) Changing this part

The inner lenses are not available separately.

3) Removing this part (if this solution what would be outcoming results)
If you were able to remove the inner lens, the light beam would not project correctly.

4) Changing the healight completely
Current price for Stilo HID Xenon headlights is over £800 (GBP) each.

I'm not familiar with this part, and not sure if the lines are on the side affected. If not, a light sand with some wet and dry and then a good quality Polish compound should cut it back

The inner lens is effected. But I wonder which side of it is or whole thickness of lens is effected. If only bulb side is effected it will be easy to clean and polish without disassembling the headlight. Just from the bulb entrance cleaning will be sufficient.

No i dont think any kind of oil contamination. Car is 12 years old. This color change is visible for 3 years and getting worse. 1 year ago i changed the bulbs.

I have seen some videos for how to open it. I can try it.

May be contacting with the manufacturer for this part may lead to a solution. but who is original manufacturer. This seems a common problem.

Did you test this? We need further info about this part. Why it is used?

May be getting rid of xenons and changing to normal headlights which are about £50 will be a solution.

xenon lens

Hi,

As it is seen by the Picture the lens infront of the xenon D2R bulb is burnout.
This part is not sold separetly you have to by the hole headlight which is very expensive.

As a solution is it possible to fit H7 bulb instead of D2R xenon bulb in this headlight without this burned out lens?
(Removing all the xenon units and fitting H7 parts)

will the result be ok for traffic rules and ligting will be fine?

thanks,

Very unlikely that the reflector pattern in the HID headlamps will be suitable for normal H7 bulbs, and it would be very difficult to mount the bulbs accurately, even if it was.

I have seen some videos for how to open it. I can try it.

Did you manage to open the headlamps?

I was thinking of trying this with mine. Did you try cleaning the HID lens?

Mine don't look quite so bad as yours.

It is difficult but possible to open with a heatgun and screw driver.

Since it is burned cleaning is not a possibility.

H7 bulb fitting should be checked or someones experience will be a better know how.

is it possible to just swap the Xenon units over for halogen and vice versa? I mean the whole housing not just bulbs, I know that wouldn't work :p

Mechanically it would be possible, but the connectors may need rewiring. Would also need to delete the HID headlamps NODE from the body computer with MES.
.

Oh, so it's not a simple plug and play then? That's a shame, I was wanting to upgrade to Xenons PROPERLY. I guess I'll just make do for now then. I'd probably be able to rewire it but I'm not sure about interacting with the body computer, I don't have anything to do that.

Thank you, you probably just saved me a fair bit of money!

I thought you meant changing from HID Xenon to normal headlamps. Changing from normal to HID would also need the front a rear automatic adjuster sensors and their wiring fitted.

I dont know for sure about the headlamp connectors wiring, they may be wired the same. I've not checked it in the wiring diagrams.
