Hi All,
Had a misfire on my Stilo. Engine Failure came up. It was driving on 3 cylinders. I removed the airbox and the inspected the 4 ignition coils. I had this misfire previously and the plug in connection on 1 had fallen off as the plastic connection had fallen apart, brittle from heat. In total 3 coils were like this with 1 in good condition. Tie wraps were used to hold the 3 of them together. All wires to all 4 coils were hard.
This time I removed them 1 by 1 to see if I could trace which one was faulty by the plug colour. I had replaced the plugs(Fiat Lancia plugs) about 3,000 miles ago. 2 of the ignition coils were really hard to remove and a strong smell of burning coming from both of them. When I removed the plugs from these 2 coils they looked about 10 years old. Obviously fryed due to the coils.
Is this a case of just replacing the coils as they have broken down and the plugs or is there something else causing the coils to fry?
Any help greatly appreciated.
