Any recommended brands? any links to buy online or euro car parts stuff good enough?

Oh, does the CV joing come apart from the drive shaft or all as one?

Cheers

i just purchased a universal split boot for mine and had no problems, it been on there for a few years now.
much easier job and saves dismantling the drive shafts.

Its not me doing the job. Its a mate who hated the universal ones and I must agree with him as I used a wrap around type before (years ago) and that was pants.

cv joint held onto driveshaft with circlip, i had no luck with wrap around type on my cinq (rip) also dismantling cv joint means you can clean it up cos if old one split it would allow ingress of crud n stuff i haven't needed to do em on stilo yet

Went for the stretch type boot when did both sides on mine, took rough measurement of cv diameter before ordering and although tried using the fiat type clamps went for thin jubilee clamps in the end which after being done over a year ago now are still going strong.
Should you choose this type of cv boot I used a cone to stretch them over and put the boots into a bag and left in warm water for 30 mins to aid stretching over to fit, yes I still sweated when putting them on but all completed with little worry and the kits also came with new axle nuts as the knuckle still needs to removed and new nuts are required as they need to be tapped on the outer edge to prevent loosening, guess now having scribbled all that could of gone a step further and removed cv joint to slip a boot on but stretch type did a good job for me.

Another thing to remember when working on the steering joints is that now the small rubber protection boots for the tie rod and wishbone if damaged will be an mot failure so should you damage these when removing the steering knuckle check you put new rubber boot on them and fresh grease before refitting, same applies to the boots on the droplinks though not removed for working on the cv boot...these small rubber boots are available as a seperate item from most good motor factors.

Well that was a git of a job. The CV would not split from the shaft so took the whole shaft out to swing a mallet. The spring retaining clip was split and only one half was in the thing. Lucky I had a CV joint in the attic from my old 306 and that had the clips. Slightly larger but I crushed that a bit and managed to get a secure fit. Got my mid exhaust section on also what was also a pain as being aftermarket the dam thing was about 1cm to short so had to get creative with the mounts. Got there in the end though so car nice and quiet again.

Genuine brand hard to beat

There is things in life where I would agree with that, like don't buy cheap bog roll or store brand tea and coffee but if someone is going to add £££ on the price of an item just as its got a name stamped on it they can take a hike. The fitting of the exhaust may have not been straight forward but its on none the less and at a fraction of the price. As for rubber boot. Is Fiat rubber better than any other that is for sale?

The reason I go for the fiat one is its harder and tougher than any of the aftermarket ones there very soft, the ones in my fiat are in it 12 years never been replaced yet
