Hello all. About to change the discs and pads on rear of my multiwagon tomorrow and im wondering if i need special tool to push caliper piston back or not

Stilo rear caliper pistons need to be turned and pressed in at the same time to retract them. The left and right caliper pistons need to be turned in opposite directions.

There's further information in this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/251667-problem-getting-fiat-part.html and from post 17 of this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/245622-pads-worn-after-18months.html

You will also need to fully release the handbrake cables from below the cover behind the centre console before retracting the pistons.

Is there any problem if I didn't totally released the handbrakes cables?
I managed to push them back without doing that and it works fine

The sequence for all calipers that have a built in handbrake mechanism is:

  1. Release the handbrake cable(s).
  2. Retract the pistons.
  3. Replace discs, pads, calipers etc.
  4. Pump the brake pedal 10 - 20 times with the engine running.
  5. Adjust the handbrake cable(s).
If you don't follow the correct procedure, the handbrake may not work efficiently and/or the handbrake may not be balanced correctly between the two rear wheels. Also, if the handbrake levers on the calipers are not fully on their stops when you first press the brake pedal, the foot brake may not work efficiently on the rear wheels.

If the Romanian ITP doesn't check handbrake efficiency or balance like the UK MOT does, then you may not have a problem.

if you dont release it the brake then it will auto adjust in the wrong postion so will work initally. BUT you will eventually find your handbrake will start to fail as there wont be enough swing arch on handbrake lever to move the pads onto the disk.
If you have put the car back together without loosing you will need to wind the caliper back before setting the handbrake up again so the auto adjustment is reset in the correct location.
I always loosen the cable right off so the cable are easy to put into place before disassembly

I found it pretty tough rewinding the piston. Much easier to completely remove the caliper, get someone to stand on it (or put it in a bench vice if you're lucky enough to own one) while you rewind/push it back. The only problem is, you have to worry about bleeding the brakes afterwards but its pretty straightforward with an old bottle, a bit of hose and a helper!

And how can I correct this now? The adjusment of the handbrake?

Another tip: your new pads may have locating pegs on the back; these fit into the two indents in the cylinder, so you may have to rotate it until they line up otherwise the caliper won't fit back on. :)
