While doing a visual check on my headlights the other day I noticed that when main beam is on the make an electronic whiring noise, but not when side lights only are on.

Any body else encoutnered this and have any advice/remedy??

Many thanks

Thanks Lads.

I'll get onto breakeryard.com today and see what they can turn up as there parts have to come guaranteed.

Anybody idea what the problem with them is and why this happens??

Thanks again.

hi Berni here as the lamps can adjust to compensate for different cabin loads..when you sw on the heads the (body?) computer sends a digital reference potential to the little motor driver. As the motor spins to ajust the lamps angle it moves a tiny potentiometer along its track until its potential matches the reference. every time the lamps are turned on the bi directional driver comparator circuit is unballanced until the computer finds the reference value and sends it to the headlamp angle driver ic. the motor shuffles the potentiometer and wears a hole in the track,no feedback to the ic and the motor is constantly driven up and down looking for the sweet spot which doesnt exist! In desperation I took the bumper off headlamp out strip motor board down (both) graphite penciled the hole on track and re assembled! (last wk) how long will it last?????
NOTE ...Aftermarket 'new' headlamps do not normaly come with motor units!

Hello again folks.

Just about to look into this job again and wondered if any one else had any further info on the job.

Is it actually the motor itself or is it the plastic connectors as remember reading somewhere that theses snap so the motor just keeps turning??

Thanks

Normal problem is that the forked clip on the white plastic shaft has come off the feedback potentiometer slider pin. Usually because the slider has rusted solid as in the one below.
