Immobiliser light came on and engine woill not start.
Roadside repair gave "key not being recognised" and then got me home.

Used registered ECUScan with 5 digit security code. Got mine when getting spare manual key (£15) + the rest for key and fitting.Over .£100 in total).

Body computer selected matching scanned body computer (Marelli MF), selected adjustments, selected Remote Control, entered Security Code, followed instructions through to complete. No errors shown.
Turned engine off and on - still hadd immobiliser icon and still no start.

Went through same process to the three options: Activstion lights (changes the response to key fob selection. Disabled it after putting security Code in. This to check adjustment working. Used the remote to lock and unlock car - no flashing lights or beeping so Security Code correct. Repeated process and enabled it.

Went through same process to get remote control immobiliser released.. No joy.

Request: Am I doing something wrong trying to get key recognised?
If not is the next step replace ECU. Presume that though I am working on the Body Computer it is all part of the ECU. And a replacement Ecu is needed. I cannot see anything else that is likely to not release the immobiliser.

Would appreciate someone confirming plan or pointing me in right direction.

Thanks to any response.

Multiscan does not allow registering of transponder in key to car ecu, only allows registering of remote for door locking system so nothing on your part is wrong, if the transponder is no longer registerd to ecu it would require Fiat Dealer equipment to set up transponder to the ecu or someone with suitable equipment to do so.

Should you wish to drive your car to dealer or to whoever you choose to who has the correct transponder setting up equipment then you may be able to use the emergency start procedure as in the link below Post 7

Many thanks, was going to pull the ecu out and look for a replacement. If the ecumultiscan does not set key recognition then that seems not a route to go down.

I tried the emergency start a couple of times over the weekend but I do not get any flashing lights to start the procedure. So car is totally immobilised.

Just to clear a point in my mind - I have to set the Marelli body computer to write the remote keys to, is that why the immobiliser is an ECU function and door locks a Body computer. If so looks like a pickup to get this sorted - have already used my Gem breakdown to get me home immobilised.

If the emergency start does not work is the pickup the only solution?

Many thanks for your quick reply

Can not give advice on ecu for immobiliser as just tap the buttons myself using multiscan to set up remotes..

Though yes would imagine getting car picked up or tow to get sorted if emergency function does not work for you I have read from this site that the function is not available on some cars , though does work on mine.

Unless you can find someone who has the correct equipment to do a home visit and look into the key registering for you .If you look in the link below there is a chappie that has the equipment to set up transponders depending on your area they may be able to help you out. so could be worth making contact with them

have a google for 'automotive locksmiths' in your area... see what it brings up. im still waiting for solid replies off my locals for more info on his kind of issue. its probably your transponder thats malfunctioned or the ECU had dropped its sync for the transponder. no need for ECU replacement, just a new transponder.

have you dropped your key recently/repeatedly?
