Right...so far ive had this grinding from the front left of of my car when I turn right, had a bloke look at it and he is baffled on what it is. Had the wheel off and everything feels soild, he might think its a drive shaft or bearing but it could be gearbox.....I hope its not...plz tell me im right. If anyone has had this problem or any advice plz let me know...many thanks,Steve.

First Thought that comes to mind is to check you do not either have part of the front brake shield scrapping on the brake disc or something like a stone chip trapped between brake disc shield and brake disc can be known to appear when wheels are in a turn.,depend on what type of grind noise you have but worth a check even if after looking and trying a little reverse drive to clear item try whipping the disc off to see if anything is not what it should be, is good excuse to give the calipers a clean n copper grease at same time and far easier and cheaper option than driveshaft if it is the cause of issue

Agree with the last post, I had a high pitched squeal coming from the nearside front. Guy in the garage said it's something rubbing on the back of the disc most probably the brake shield. This noise occurred after around half an hours driving. Haven't heard it since.

Thanks for the replys, ive had new discs all thebway round and pads..brake shields have been cut off because they interfering with brakes before I had new ones. The grinding is from the front and when I go round a roundabout or a sharp corner the car nearly comes to a halt. Its so bad I cant drive the car.

sounds strange the stone guards were fouling the original brakes and needed cutting off ?
I have fitted non std sized brakes so I can only blame myself but I also get some contact when on full lock with the stone guard, I suspect its on the inside disc face coming into contact with the part of the stone guard that surrounds the lower wishbone ball joint in the hub.
I also just did wishbones which made it worse where id caught guards to split the ball joint, but a quick wheel off and screwdriver to pry the stone guard away around that ball joint area of the stone guard sorted it out(for now).
I suspect that on full lock the wishbone shape is pressing on the guard but I find it hard to see it pressing so hard it almost stalls car ?
were the calipers off to do the brakes ? any way that the brake pipes have been twisted or wrapped out of place so when on full lock the pipe is stretched and clamps the caliper.
im sure this could be repeated on a garage ramp with both front wheels up and someone holding full lock and someone spinning wheels, a lot harder to diagnose diy on drive

Found out what the problem is and its a diff in the gearbox, order a gear box and drive shafts and going to change all of it.

A differential causes these problems so be aware of this folks.

was this diy diagnosed or garage diagnosed, if so any info on the test done would help also.
also let us know possible reason for failure , as havnt read many diff failures on here or alfa forum, any i have seen have been diff explosions and cracked cases or oil issues with bearings maybe.
worth dropping oil before job gets too deep in to measure oil litres coming out of gearbox/diff ?
