Just looking at the Fiat UK website it seems there are no options if I wish to replace my Stilo. I feel abandoned by the company. The Bravo has gone with no promise of a replacement and the Punto range of engines is so poor that no one in their right mind would trade down. If the website is reflecting the true position there are now no multiair 4 cylinder engines in the whole range above the 500 and no multijet diesels giving over 100bhp. How mad is that?

Multiair - what happened?

I can find only one multiair engine offered across the whole Fiat and Alfa range (a 170bhp version for the Giulietta). Did something catastrophic happen to the less powerful versions?

Re: Multiair - what happened?

a quick google threw up a few threads on alfa forum seemed to be the 135hp versions and a few 170 threads, appeared to suffer a few failures early on due to oil usage and made worse by a hard to read dip stick and long service milage ?
also there was a mention of a freezing belt issue in temps well below freezing ?
and oil in spark plug holes ?
some reading

I hope you find something nice as a replacement.

Re: Multiair - what happened?

Hardly seems something that can't be sorted. Even if they have no faith in multiair why can't they offer the T jet to give us a modicum of power. At present you can't buy any Fiat with more than about 100bhp and the majority of them have far less than that. That's simply inadequate for any kind of long distance motoring and goes against the trend being set by other makers for small, powerful petrol engines.

i read a couple of 135hp threads on mito and guiletta cars and the owners seemed more than happy with them.
real world mpgs into the 40s and a few threads comparing the 170ma with 170jtdm and after driving both went with ma.

Fiat and Alfa are both in danger of losing their customer base at the moment if they are not careful.

Looks as if I will be keeping the GT for a long time yet! I might trade up to a 159 Sportwagon sometime to replace the 156 but it is so heavy....

Jim, why not try to snap up a late, pre-owned Bravo? They're a very good value secondhand buy...

Good idea. My problem is I'm so attached to my Stilo and it's got a few years in it yet. I am just concerned about the way Fiat is going with both models and engines. The poor showing, sales wise, of both the Stilo and the Bravo is partly self inflicted due to absence of promotion by the company and now they have no car at all in the Golf/Astra/Focus category. Only the Punto would interest me in the current range but only if it had a decent choice of engines rather than the low powered, ancient 8 valve units.

They are more interested in producing the same watered down pooh engines because of the economies of scale in manufacturing. The bravo tjet sport which I luckily own is the best thing they have made in a long time but they didn't make it for long. More to the point they didn't promote it as an abarth even though the engine is the same. Haven't tried the later multi-air equivalent. But the Alfa is over priced and it's a different chassis than the bravo.

I thought the Giulietta WAS a Bravo in a posh frock

Delta is probably VERY similar;)

The Alfa is actually built on a very good new chassis, that is in a similar league the Focus/VW.

The Bravo was meant to also be based on this, and been here by now. The only other cars off the Alfa chassis by now are Jeeps and Dodges.

Fiat does seem to of lost interest in the UK market.

well I see your point, there is nothing in the estate platform from fiat... think my next car will be either ford or vauxhull, a shame really as i have had fiats since 2001 and don't really want to change make, but feel I will have too. I really do not like the fiat 500 7 seater thing.

I know wont be popular but have a soft spot for skoda, and theres a new fabia being unveiled in October.
should be built on the vag lightweight chassis styling looks better than the mk2 but still not as nice as mk1 and engines are supposed to be under 95g/km for all diesels and under 110g/km .
you can always keep a fiat in the family.

I have a Focus Titanium X 2.0tdci 163 now after leaving Fiat after nothing suited me.

It is a brilliant car to drive and worlds apart from the shady build and reliability of my old GP
