As some of you might know I've had my share of Stilo trouble. I thought everything was fixed, but it wasn't. This time it's different though.

So, here we go again.

I started off with ABS problems, jumping needles, but no power-loss. You can read the whole story via the link above.
After a week of driving without trouble, I wen't on a long trip. I had to get some certificates for my work, which was a 110 km drive. On the way over she drove like a beauty.
On the way back she was still doing great, apart from a little screeching caused by the brake-system on the front right wheel. The pad doesn't 'retract' as much as it did, making it touch the pad a little, especially when steering a bit to the left. I filed down the edges of the pad a bit, as 'my guy' at the garage advised new front pads and disks, quite pricey.

About 200m left, and the famous 'ASR failure' came up, followed by 'Loose connection', 'Engine Fault'. The car jumped a few times, then stalled. After a few start attempts the came back to life.

Today the same issue, except this time the error was accompanied by 'Car security failure' or whatever. I was very lucky to get the car to the side of the road without getting rear-ended, dangerous as hell. Again after a few starts she went off without a problem.

Now I know what can cause the problem, but why wouldn't a car start when it's just an 'ASR failure', which is merely a software function that can even be turned off by the driver. This tells me that it appears to not be an ASR failure at all.

Went to read out the codes (they're translated)
B1029 - Serial line W, communication fault, intermit.
U1601 - Error C-Can, Bus off, test not complete, intermit.

Now what I wonder is can this have anything to do with the brake-pad sticking? By that I mean the brake disc heating up, which heats up the wheel hub and possibly affecting the ABS-sensor and/or ring?

What I've done to clear previous errors:
- Changed the battery, not a higher capacity one.
- Cleaned up all terminals connected to the battery.
- Cleaned the fuse-box on the right-top side of the battery.
- Added an additional ground directly from the battery to 'earth-point' C15.
- Re-newed the Brake Light Switch.
- Checked the D4 connector and the two on the ECU.

What I've done after first experiencing the ASR failure.
- Took apart the ECU, there were two pins slightly dropped, about a milimeter. I've pushed them back to no avail.
- Completely dismantled the fuse-box that sits on top of the battery, there were white traces of moist, cleaned everything and replaced all fuses and relays.

Knowing there's lots of causes, I'm getting a bit tired of the Stilo, which is a bummer. I'm not willing to just start replacing stuff, as it can be quite the bill.
Any tips and suggestions are highly welcome.

What I forgot to mention is a things that's going on for a while, might be a clue to someone.

Whenever I go for a small trip, to get groceries for example, there seems to be something a bit off with the throttle. It always happens on the way back.
I start the car, drive off, then when I let go of the throttle it almost seems as if someone is pressing my brakes, in a pattern like a bouncy-ball. It only happens in the first two gears, and is usually gone after revving higher than 3000 rpm.

Just while describing this it's almost as if ABS is being applied for a second or two, in a more subtle way, however it seems more likely to be a fuel/air ratio issue.

The car will be getting a new APK (MOT) next week, 17 inch blue rims with fresh tires, and I think I'll go for a full service (new filters, fresh oil, spark plugs, etc).
In previous post I was thinking about getting rid of the car, but considering I fancy the Stilo a LOT, I'm willing to spend on the problem.
