Hi guys
im suspecting my alternator has a bearing going, under load at lower revs i get a constant squeeking noise now.
The belts are all fine and in spec so im suspecting the alternator.
I dont have that metallic clunking noise on start so have ruled out the crank pulley.
The noise is only apparent under load when the engine is labouring slightly - but stops when she is reving hard or not labouring.
Has anyone experianced this noise before, its hard to record it as it only happens when motoring.
Ive looked on euros and they have one for £106 (RTX), is it worth the punt to shut that noise up for good.
cheers guys

Hello

I've experienced something very similar Roy and in my case it was because the belt wasn't tight enough. I had 2 or 3 new belts fitted and retightened which fixed the problem for about 2 weeks but the noise reappeared. Before I found out it was the belt I also suspected either an alternator bearing or the crank pulley. I did however replace the crank pulley and alternator pulley (alternator pulley failed anyway) but that wasn't it!

I made a video of it. Is this the noise you are experiencing?

THATS IT, but mine only appears under load!.
My belts are tight, i may just change the aux belt just in case then to see where i stand on it.
I cannot hear that noise on tickover at all.

I had the squeeking at idle but it got worse when under load. I wondered if it was the manufacturer of belt and i was going to try a genuine Fiat belt. The belt i have is Dayco.

Maybe worth checking your alternator pulley.....? Although saying that in my case it caused the noise at idle, just a thought.

You could be on the right path with the bearing if it only happens when under a load.
