Hi all,
I have a VAG/COM lead and can read engine codes etc. I also understand that certain links for that lead are needed for different ecu's such as ABS and Air con etc but for things like Service message reset etc, I need an ELM 327 lead.
Now, if I get this lead, will it read all the different ecu's associated with it straight off or does that have to have links to certain pins as well?
Cheers in advance.
Simon.

Hi sgthirkell,

You will need either a modified ELM 327 interface or proper connection router cables for it to reach all of the different systems on board. Different pins on the obd interface carry different information, not going into the details, yes you will need to switch between pins to reach all the modules.

This link explains to you shortly what are the differences between the various interface types. Also here http://forum.multiecuscan.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1493 you can read a lot about ELM interfaces and how they work.

Cheers mate,
Zoli

That's great Zoli, thank you so much, this has made it very clear. :)

I modified my elm, but was going to put another link from same seller you linked above that included a kkl vag com cable but not include the elm..you may I think also need to get an kkl/vag cable for the airbag reading but not expensive, also if you need to remove a certain resistor from the elm device is not too difficult once you have found the resistor to cut out of the circuit.but least if you get adapter cables it will save you having to modify the pin wires of the elm device.

Hi guys,

I purchased a ELM v1.4 OBD2 cable set a while ago, and finally got round to using it.

I've managed to successfully hook it up to my car, with a registered version of multiscanecu, but i'm having no joy working with the airbags errors.

I've hooked it up, using the lead on its own, and the green adaptor, which gives me access to the engine, abs, body modules, cleared lots of errors, and pushed on to try and fix the airbag error.

I hooked up the red adaptor, and it completes a scan, but doesn't seem to detect any airbag modules, and if i select an individual module to connect to it says i need a kkl vag com cable.. so dumb question, do i need different cables or should i be able to connect to the airbag modules using the ELM 327 device?

Any help appreciated
