Hello

Earlier my wife was driving to work in my JTD when the high coolant warning came up. She ended up having to be towed back home by the RAC. The coolant hose had a split in it causing coolant to leak out. Anyway the RAC man replaced the hose and topped up coolant but on restarting the engine the coolant sprayed out from another part. He showed me what part needs changing and according to the customer assistance report it's the heater hose transfer 4 way junction - bleed valve on top. I've rang Fiat twice and explained best I can what part is needed but they don't know or can't find it. I've posted some photo's up and one diagram from eper that looks like it (might not be the right one mind). Is that name the correct name for this part and does anybody have a part number that I could give to Fiat? There is a bleed valve on top of it.

I hope someone can help. It's not the thermostat is it? My poor JTD is sat on the front looking sorry for itself

Thanks

Phil

Probably item 3 in this ePER diagram, but there are 5 different versions of it depending on engine, year and whether you have standard heater or manual or automatic climate control.

not sure myself, could do. a split will let air into the system and cause an air lock which will work its way around the cooling system. Its possible I suppose but im not 100% sure!

New part fitted and now the car is running again (y)

Does the cooling fan on the JTD take a while to kick in? After my mechanic fitted the new pipe he ran the car idle for a few minutes but the fan didn't kick in. He says it could not be getting hot enough for the fan to come on. His Peugeot 306TD is the same, takes a long time for the fan to start. I'm not concerned as i've never had any problems with the temperature apart from this!

from own experience and running jtd myself phillip it does take some time to get to temperature, mine sits at half way when out driving so thermostat ok..but yes diesels run colder taking longer to reach running temp, which in winter is why takes longer for cabin heater to warm up

Would check you cabin heater heats up also..and the part replaced looks like either the one of the bleed valves or pipe near by, did mechanic bleed the system after filling there are 3 bleed points, if remember correct ,start at top front of engine block small brass bolt on metal pipe..top of radiator right side looking at from front of car and the one in your pic, one at a time, slightly loosen till coolant leaks then tweek up not too tight to snap the bleed screw. this will bleed any trapped air in the pipe system, think you can do when engine cool but take care if doing when engine hot ..once done check level in expansion bottle when coolant warm again care needed when removing coolant cap.

as above, fan takes ages to kick in. I have found that the cooling system on these 115 JTD's is pretty good, and I rarely hear my fan kick in, in fact only on the hottest days

The flat spot that occured between 2k - 3.5k has gone! The car pulls nice and smooth now through out the rev range :D So that heater junction bit must have had an effect.
