I'm having problems with my car again
It stalled on me constantly a week last Saturday, then on the way to work last Monday, the engine fault light came on and I lost all power. I turned off and on again but the same. I was only 5 minutes from work, so decided to try and get there, got up to 20mph with my foot to the fall in 4th gear. Then called the AA.
The computer said it was the Throttle Actuator and after some checks and cleaning it was no different so he towed it to the garage. On Tuesday the garage looked at it and changed the throttle actuator but it made no difference. I have had to wait until today for their electrician to be available and now they are saying it is the throttle body. They are currently waiting to hear from the garage as to how much that will cost. I've not even had the car three months, and have hated being without it for a week.
My concern is that it is going to be an expensive part and and expensive job that the car is not worth fixing. The car only cost £700, its and 02 with approx 67k miles on the clock. This is all a bit too technical for me.
I am hoping that someone on here would be able to give me a bit of advice. Is this a common thing or a major thing or an expensive thing?
Any advice would be most welcome.
Many thanks
Claire

I just spoke to the garage again and he said something about needing to reset the throttle motor!!!

Try to find the plug that goes to the aircon, it runs on the same circuit as the throttle body. Clean the plug, make sure there are no damage to it, and reinstall it. Might work. If you don't have aircon, you can cut the connector off, and seal the wires, as water can short out the circuit. Did this happen during heavy rain?

Hi Claire, I dont know if your problem is the same for me, but this is my problem:

when I am in traffic the car begin to "buck" or "lurch" and make this in low revolutions, is like I dont know to release the Clutch, and then the engine warning lights start the rev go to 1500rpm and the accelerator or throttle dont work any more, if I push the throttle to the end the car stay at 1500 rpm, I can move anyway. I have to turn off the cars and start again and the engine light turn off and I can drive again, but the problem is repetitive

When the lurch is to begin the smoke of the car stink, is like a fart

Have solution for this??

And let me tell you something, I have a friend with the same car and she had the same problem, the mechanistic tell her that the problm was the throttle body, she did not change it and only clean all the cables and no more lost power, but the lurch problem persists for her
