Hi all

I'm having some stiff gears on my still, sometimes I can change gear ok but other times they feel a bit resistant or don't always go in first time (if I change to a different gear then try again it's fine) - I don't have to jab the clutch can leave the clutch down for the gear to go in so hopefully it's not the clutch

It's apparently had a new clutch last month I have done a test if I put it in first with handbrake in biting point us about midway and it creeps forward into a stall (that's ok isn't it?)

Could it be crappy oil in gearbox maybe or does it sound like clutch?

You could try lubricating the gear linkage at the gearbox where the cables attach use a squirty type as is awkward to get at all the joints of the mechanism and cable rose joints, tend to do mine a few times a year to keep things smooth also lift the gear stick shroud and lubricate there, no harm in changing gearbox oil more so if the oil has been in there for some time put tutela gear oil(if spelt correct) in mine when did last from fiat, but always better to start with the simpler stuff first.

thanks for the reply, how do i get to the linkage to lubricate it?

On the jtd is back of gearbox just below the fuel filter, you know it when you see it with 2 cables attached to a box of pivots n joints, for the gear stick inside cabin just lift up the shroud cloth cover and all will be visible. is worth giving a try as they are external moving parts that will get dirt and dry up over time if not lubricated

when you say squirty oil, do you mean like WD40 or do you mean like Grease oil in a squirty gun?

Just a oil / grease type, if wd40 is all you have for time being will do, but much better with a grease type more so for the gear stick area,, I can just reach using a small oil tub with a thin straw thing on it to get some drops of oil in the right places to lubricate,

anyone know how much the 1.9 JTD diesel 150BHP takes in terms of gearbox oil capacity?

my manual says
gearbox/diff casing = 1.87litres(1.7kg) tutela car technyx
ive had no issues running redline mt90
Dont forget the old , make sure you can get the filler plug off before you drain the old stuff out.
Seeing issues with whine in 6th in alfa and vauxhall cars so if yours doesnt have it id be using the best oil you can afford.
