Hello,

I would like to ask some info regarding air filters. I'm in a need to replace an air filter, and i though i should try something different, maybe a performance air filter.

I'm looking for original replacement. I want performance air filter, that isn't oiled. What are good quality filters for 1.6 Stilo?

Is it possible to get a Green air filter? After hours of searching i can't find one. :(
K&N filters seems to be a good choice, but they are pre-oiled. What else is there on the market?

A bonus question, how good are the induction kits? Is it worth having one?

Not sure about green air filters, it's pretty much only k&n that you'll find that's decent enough to use. Why don't you want it pre-oiled? Induction kits are good, depending on your car set up. If you're just running the induction kit without an aftermarket exhaust or remap, then you'll actually lose power, only by a fraction, but it still makes a difference. They only sound good at that's about it. Panel air filters all the way!

What i heard, in the long run, oiled filters might leave a nasty sticky residue in the air pipe, that attracts dust. (someone please burst this myth) :D

My car is pretty much standard, regarding engine mods. NO remap (can't find who can do it, only chip tuning, which is only for turbo'ed cars) Regarding exhaust, i only got a sport back box, with two 60mm tips :)

I had a feeling that my best choice would be a panel air filter replacement.

Slightly off-topic question. Aftermarket exhaust, is it full exhaust replacement? Meaning wider pipes, sport back box, no middle box or it being replaced with an exhaust resonator?

When i looked on ebay i found quite a few green air filters just type fiat stilo green air filter and i have noticed since i put an aftermarket air filter on i get an oily build up in the throttle body not much different to the standard air filter to be honest and on the topic of exhausts its completely up to you if your going to a garage to get it done just tell the mechanic what you want im soon going to be replacing my back box with a sports back box and get the middle silencer removed and the cat replaced with a sports one it depends are you looking for sound or performance ?

Yes, i saw green filter listings on ebay, but there aren't one for 1.6. And all of them (1.2/1.4/1.8/1.9/2.4) are the same, same H/W which are different from K&N.

For me personally, i got sport back box just for the looks, i wanted double pipe. It looks good, it sounds even better :D. A bit silly q. Isn't the middle silencer = cat? *shy* If you replace middle silencer with a straight pipe or with resonator, do you get higher CO2 emission?

My sneaky scheme is to get a more pervious air filter. And then make an extra space near air intake pipe. I will cut a new hole, near air pipe, and near the grill, to get more cold air in. Now the air pipe can't directly get a cold air, there's a blocking to prevent water getting in. I can't explain properly without any pictures. But my plan will allow more cold air in without letting dirt/water to get into the air pipe. (i promise to add some pics when ill start doing it.)

Oh thats odd i will have a butchers and not silly at all but no the middle silencer is just to make less noise and wont affect co2 at all but the cat is what does take the really bad bits out of the fumes via a filter theres actually a tiny amount of platinum in it but if a sports one is fitted it lets the fumes escape alot easier which = a bit of a boost and yes defiantly want to see some pics as i want to do the same sort of thing

So, aren't there any other worthy performance air filters, rather than K&N?

Also, if someone used K&N filter, was there any difference in "clogging" throttle body / air pipe? (reason for K&N being oiled)

from what i have read its better for a non oiled filter, although, i am going to fit a cone filter on mine jtd, for ease of changing more than anything. most ebay cone filters are not oiled

Original Stilo air filter size is 283/160
I was looking at Green air filters (non oiled), but i can only find 269/169

I can see, that they are different. I'm still wondering, maybe i could use it? (most likely i can't) It seems there are no options for non oiled performance air filters for a stilo :/ That's a shame..
