4 times it cut out on M6 southbound with loose connection on dash ended up coming home on recovery truck so chap said alternator suspect, but removing live off the battery and refit it starts 1.9 jtd (80)

prior to phoning recovery disconnecting + & reconnecting sorted it for a time loose connection warning comes up on dash board but by then engine has cut out.phoned recovery then i left it when recovery looked at it it started first time so crank sensor then? easy job or what? (crank angle sensor?)

It sounds just like a crank sensor.
Pick one up from motor factors, you'll probably get change from £20.
Its a fiddly job, but i remember a while back you changed your starter, and its NO WHERE near as difficult as that.
And writing that had made me think, you might have given it a bash when changing it, as its in the starters path.
Have a look on the forum, theres a few good threads to guide you in the change! (y)

Multi Ecu Scan. The download is free but you'll need to buy the
cables from eBay!
Have you tried the car since?
You could always see if there is a forum member close with a copy of MES.

Tried? im still using it seems fine no issues since

How long are you driving it for each time now?
When mine went it was as if it was dependent on the engine temperature - drive it for 20 mins until it was warm and then stop.

In regards to windows 8, you shouldn't need it, mines running it on Win 7, it doesn't work on Mac OS though.

when it happened it was up to normal temp plus it was a warm day i was thinking about that as well tbh ANYWAYS i have new crank sensor just need to fit it now after i locate it on the engine:)

I have had my Stilo since 2006. It has been pressurewashed (jetwashed) once by me, back in 2007 I think. Just one time since I bought the car, it has refused to start. Guess when?

(I knocked the crank sensor out of alignment).

Hi. Crank sensor is at the back of the engine just below the starter, so you will need to get the car up fairly high I think I used two trolley jacks and axle stands.
From memory one 10mm bolt to remove the sensor the plug is the awkward bit very fiddly, I seem to remember cutting the wire at the old sensor end and taping the new wire to it and pulling it up from the top carefully, then taking the plug bracket off its near the alternator to get the old plug apart.

Can you be sure that this causes this problem because I have the same problem with my car but I have abs lights on handbrake light on,no speedo and low oil pressure. Now this has only happened since ive had a new gearbox.I need to know if this is the problem before I get a new ecu. Many people on here are saying its a complete fault on ecu-ecu failure.

you could have a different fault though ste i went with trying replacement because diagnostic equipment cost more than the sensor if i had an ecu fault i would take it to someone that "knows" about them because i dont have a clue it would seem that you have had some input as to you're faulty ecu are all 3 items listed linked to ecu?
