How would you know if you have excessive play in your gearbox mounts?

If you're referring to the single mounting on top of the gearbox. It sometimes rattles when worn. The rubber in it can also compress, but the only way to tell if yours has, would be to compare it with a known good one.
If you're referring to the 1 or 2 (depending on engine size) stabiliser bar(s) under the engine, you would normally hear a clonking noise when changing gear and/or accelerating if faulty.

Does the 2.4 have any of these stabiliser bars davren? I think one of mines gone.

I can't tell by looking at the mo but I can tell by when I drive it, when I come off the gas the motion feels like the engine is rocking and you can feel it through the gear stick. Could it be the mounts? Or something else?

Oh...and there's no clucking noise just a rocking motion.
Yes... all engines have at least 1 of them. Just looked at all the engines in ePER and it appears that only the JTDs have 2.
This is the 2.4 one (item 5).

It's designed to rock a little on the rubber inserts in the stabilised bar. It would depend on how much it's rocking as to whether it's excessive and needs replacing.
This is the 1.8 one (item 7).

The rocking would be when I come off the gas only..but when it idling it you can feel vibration through the car but its not a lot of it...if you see what I mean.
Unlikely to be the stabiliser bar if you only feel the vibration on idle.

Flywheel? Are they duel mass on the 1.8's?
