I've got a Stilo JTD which I had cheap.
There are various faults.

I noticed a plug was not plugged in infront of the battery and going to some sort of air box it looks like. (tried to show in pic).
I plugged it back in and the power went. It was as if the turbo was gone.

What is this plug? And how come it works better when it's out?

Thanks

Are you on about the plug with the yellow clip on the pipe that goes from the airbox to the turbo? If so thats the MAF sensor and if it's working better when its not plugged in i'd guess that means the sensors gone.

You could try taking it and and giving it a clean but if its thats bad you probably need a new one

Yeah, sorry. Absolutely appalling picture haha.

That's the one!
Well I know a guy who's breaking one of these. is a used MAF sensor ok?

ps. if it works fine as it is now, what is the point in it in the first place??

As far as i'm aware the MAF gives the engine ECU data on the air that is being drawn into the engine (eg amount) and the ECU can then adjust accordingly. If the MAF is faulty it will send erroneous values and mess the whole thing up but if its unpluged the ECU won't be getting any information so will revert to some default settings.

yup, as above - if unplugged its working on a set of "default" values, which means you will get minimum economy/power etc so believe me, its worth replacing!!

personally, I would buy new - a MAF isn't something worth buying second hand as it may well fail - they are sensitive sensors and you stand a high chance of fitting another duff one. If you must buy a used one, don't pay much more than £10-£15 otherwise its a false economy I think!
