hi iv looked through a few threads but no luck finding a resolution with my issue, i have a recently acquired stilo 1.2, recently the side lights dont work until the dipped beam is turned on and the main beams dont work at all (no main beam symbol on dash) and the tail lights go out, also when centre interior light is on the left indicator is on, when the light goes off the indicator stops. when you turn on left map light the main beams come on and the central locking operates!

iv removed engine fuse box and stripped down and checked and although there is a small amount of corrosion it still has good readings, i have checked all earth points in the engine bay and they all come back as good, i have disconnected all light units and still happens (without lights actually coming on), iv unplugged the stalk and still have the same issues, iv removed fuses for puddle/ceiling lights and central locking still no change....

this seems like an earth fault but from what!!!

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi again i see that no one had any suggestions, well iv pretty much had the car in pieces and have located all earth points in the car, which have now been cleaned and checked and are all ok, i think my body computer has gone as the issues are still there, my question is can i get a body computer along with ecu, locks etc from any 1242 stilo and put it on or does it have to be of the same variation? (Part numbers)

Also is it possible to get the old key coded to a different body computer saving having to change the ignition and door locks?

Not sure if this will help but I had a Strada 2 some years back and had similar symptoms which turned out to be the switch assembly on steering column at fault.(It was a warranty job, as the car was only a couple of weeks old),. A new swtich/lever arm assembly fixed it. (We had no airbags in those days to worry about, so I understand it was a relatively simple job)
Has yours been tampered with at any time?

Thanks for the response, i have looked into the stalk and had disconnected and the issue still happens, with what iv done it doesn't really leave anything but the body computer unfortunately

did you separate the 4 plates in the fuse box...if water gets in there it plays havoc on any bit of the electrical..

This is an old thread, so I guess they fixed it.. but it's a good tip to check over the fuse box. Under the engine compartment is probably a hard place for it to survive.

My JTD gave me aggro' with the main beam not working, which I traced to the BCM. Apart from the main beams just didn't come on, I had no other symptoms. Even the blue light on the dash worked okay. There were no "earthing" type anomalies and everything else appeared fine... so I would say if a car goes into random behaviour, it's more likely to be an earth than the BCM.

BCM is under the dashboard, so unless the car leaks around the dashboard (blocked drains under the bonnet or a badly replaced windscreen etc.) then it's very unlikely to get wet and corroded.
