Peeps what is the score with the Schumacher limited edition plate numbers?

Have just had a good read thru the Schummy owners list thread (after including myself) and clearly there is a vast amount of numbers bashing about!

I did a lot of research before my purchase and have done so since, with all sources most of which from highly recognised motoring magazines and or journalists stating that there where only 200 limited models to be sold in the uk, split between standard and the prodrive kit models.

I'm totally confused as to why then, there are clearly a large number of vehicles with numbers above 200 and many from 1k onwards, can anyone shed a light on this one as either all the original plans, advertising etc completely changed or there are bogus numbers out there???

While you're waiting for a reply from someone who knows, it might be worth seeing if there were a different number of Schumacher and Schumacher GP models produced?

I think the GP model is much more limited.

I asked this question to someone else once who owned one which was something like number 1082 and he said that there was only 200 meant to be officially brought in however they weren't all numbered 1-200. Oddly I was curious to know how many Schumachers were left or registered so I asked the question on here and someone found out that at thier peak only 130 were ever taxed in the uk which means that 70 of them are either hidden away or never reached the country

I was thinking last night that maybe anything over the uk 200 are imports but that would mean a lot of imports and owners would ordinarily know if their model was an import or not.

Have plucked a couple of articles from the day for info which defo point towards a strictly limited 200 uk models to be sold, being numbered from 001-200 and of the 200 there being a mix of either standard or gp depending on how many customers chose to pay the extra 1k for the pro drive gp kit.

So by rights there should only be 200 plated cars from 001-200 in the uk and of those they will either be standard or gp.......unless all the plans changed, then still as clear as mud as to why so many numbers out there and the jury is still out on this one for me.......

hay gadge found this which links in with what you are saying, don't know how accurate it is but would defo fit in as more evidence to suggest that only 200 existed for the uk

I did think the same but on researching it would appear that the gp models where not additional numbers and that the 200 uk cars where to be a mix of either standard or gp

I'ld say it's pretty accurate as the website I used was a different one and said the same - at 2007 the peak number of schumachers taxed (or is it first registered) was 130. From what I've seen all the numbers that are over 200 seem to be near the 1000 number as apposed to say number 350

The UK Stilo Sports Range brochure says "There will only ever be 200 Stilo Schumacher limited editions in the UK", but it doesn't say that the numbering will be consecutively from 001 to 200.

The brochure also says that the GP kit was available for the normal Stilo Abarth. The MS badges are orderable from Fiat (£13 for dashboard badge, £28 for side skirt badge), so perhaps some of the cars in the "Have you got a Schumacher" thread are actually GP equiped Abarths with the MS badges added by current or previous owners ;).

The diagram of the MS dashboard badge in ePER (the Fiat parts catalogue) shows it with "No. 0411" on it.

Thats exactly what I'm now suspecting and wondering just how far or clouded the issue is???(n)
I nearly came close to falling fowl of this when I was searching for one to buy.....a garage that was passing off an abarth with a schummy gp kit on it......thankfully id done enough research to spot that the suspension and badges didn't match, they claimed they had no idea but weeks later kept it advertised as a schum gp so god knows if they sold it on as one in the end.......but then again, who knows, as you say any abarth could be changed into an alias Schummy.

I would have thought that the log book would have recored the fact that they came off the production line as Schummy'z but it probably wouldn't be hard to re apply for log book and simply add in that it is a schumacher model, I've just checked log book which records that its Schumacher and no mention of abarth so defo hope that that is on there having been recorded as such with dvla from its birth

There has to be someway of proving definitively whether you have a genuine one of the 200 models, I'd like to think Fiat would have a record and be able to confirm.......a can of worms.....'the great Schumacher Plate Debate'......lol

Well not quite, You'ld have to put quite a lot of effort in to make it look like a genuine shummy. Firstly there's the bumpers - not easy to get hold of and even the spoiler is different than the abarth ones then there's the paint - it's unique to the shummy no other fiat uses it and it would have to be a late model one to be equipped with the manual gearbox. One things for sure is that it's still a very rare car. I don't see many turn up for sale and hardly ever see one get broken up

Putting your VIN in ePER may show it as a Schmacher.

The forum copy of ePER is only up to 2004 so won't list cars after then. If you want to PM me your VIN. I'll check it on my newer ePER.
.

thanks dav but i have no doubt about my own im just totally bemused by all the other numbers out there and wonder whats behind it or why? I fancy making a few enquiries with fiat to try and bottom this one out!

I was thinking more along the lines of; if I had the VIN of a known Schumacher, I could check on ePER to see if it lists it as such. Then I would be able to check any "questionable" ones for members in the future. ;)

hey peeps update on the schummy debate.......

I contacted Fiat UK who in turn passed it onto Fiat International and after a week of research into the question of how many produced and sold etc they confirmed the following......

The only data they still have in existance is purely Workshop Technical Data with no one who knows anything about the model, no data or info of anything to do with numbers produced or sold etc and because they only retain info in archive for a limit of 5 years there is nothing in their archive......I find it hard to believe but there it is
:bang:
