Hello fellow stilo owners.

I have a stilo with the 1.8 16v petrol engine. I am wondering if the following behavior is normal:

Whenever I press the throttle and the engine goes for higher RPM than 1000 when I release the pedal afterwards the RPM go to about 700-800 and then go back to normal (900-1000). The sound is like the car will stop, but apparently it does not.

So I am wondering if it should be acting like that? If not, what can be the cause? Unfortunately this is my first car and I did not pay attention to whether this behavior existed when I bought it.

Thank you guys :worship:

My 1.6 can do this quite often. If you give it a quick rev, and let it drop suddenly, it will dip lower than idle for a second.
I cleaned my throttle body, and that cleared the lumpy idle I had, but it still sometimes does it.
It doesn't cause a problem for me, so I've never worried about it. It's not extreme on mine.

When driving normally, this isn't going to happen often. I've only ever had it being a problem once - I was going downhill around a bend, and changed down a gear. As I had 1 foot on the brake, the other on the clutch, my revs plunged enough to trigger some dash lights (it thought it had stalled, but not quite). Only had it once in owning the car for over a year.

Sorry I can't be any help. Deffo clean your ICF though, that's always worth doing on the Stilo.

(I should also add, that one time that I had a problem, I had my lights on, fan on 2, and possibly even the heated rear screen, so the alternator was probably loading the engine too)

Well, it has never been a problem for me either, but it does not seem and sound natural nor good, that is why I would like to clean this up.

Thank you for replying, I will not have access to my stilo for the next 5 days but I will try this as soon as possible afterwards.

I'm wondering if yours is a bit more severe then? Normally it'll drop in revs, and then slow down as it nears idle, but sometimes it'll drop very quickly, and fall to maybe 700rpm before recovering back to an idle of 800 ish.
Maybe mine is nothing like as bad as yours?!

I does not seem like mine is that bad either. Anyways, whenever the revs are going down they first go to about 700 and then after a split second back to normal, I even do not lose any power if I press the gas pedal at that time, it is just the sound that is more obvious since I have a custom exhaust as you can imagine any change in the sound of the car is more noticeable.

Okay guys, I cleaned the valve yesterday and now the initial problem is gone, thank you for the help.

I have another follow up question - when pressing the gas pedal it did not seem like the valve was fully openning. I have seen it on a seat ibiza how it fully opens but it barely opened about maybe 60-70 percent on my stilo. What can the reason for that be ?
