The Stilo has been banging for years now so I bought rear engine mounts! Recently I removed the bolts, M11, I think from the mounts connecting to the engine. However, when trying to remove the bolts in to the chassis cross-member I needed a piece of pipe to loosen! On top of the cross member I sprayed WD40 in to the recesses and let soak. I then turned anti-clockwise so far then back again many times. The next day I repeated the same with more WD40 but these thick bolts twisted and broke leaving the remains inside! 2 days for nothing. What do I do now? I don't know how much of each bolt is left in situ but both screwed out about 10mm before snapping. If I got new bolts I cannot screw them back in! The two rear mounts were disintegrated. Ironically, none of the local mechanics noticed this when I complained of the rattling/banging noise!

Any help would be welcome but I'm shattered now. May take a few pix tomorrow to show what had happened.

Looking forward to your "fiat'ful advice.

Crikey now that is bad luck.
If they were that tight to begin with then I doubt any fancy "easy-out" tool or similar would work.
I think it may be a case of drilling it out and retapping, and on a part such as that I'd probably get someone who is experienced to do that! Have you called around any local garages?

Many thanks for your response & sympathy! I have taken a couple of photos to show the problem(s) and tried to load them in this reply to you. However, as being a new member the Forum will not let me upload images until I have 5 posts. I do not understand that!!
Anyway, the 2 new mounts which I have are identical to the old knackered ones, they have an inside diameter of almost 20mm whereas the bolts which pass through are only 11mm. The pix clearly show this but how would they ever be tight when the mount itself will slop about with 9mm to spare? Will hopefully be allowed to show pix soon.

Broken rear engine mounts & bolts too!

Bang bang! No not the B A Robertson song but the noise from my JTD Stilo for many years! Got new rear engine mounts as they had disintegrated, (mechanics didn't notice), and engine bolts removed so easily but the 2 chassis bolts snapped as if they were made of cheese leaving them stuck in the cross-member. They screwed out about 10mm, (were WD40ed & screwed back & forth) before breaking in two. Upon inspection the bolts screwing in to the chassis through the mount are 11mm in diameter whilst the diameter of the mount hole is just shy of 20mm. How could they ever be tight if the mounts can slop about by 9mm against the retaining bolts?
Any answers would be welcome. Will load pix I took to show to the cheese/bolts and mounts when allowed.
