Hi,

I am new to the forum as a registered member, but I have been a regular visitor otherwise.

I own a Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V petrol 2003. The car runs ok without any major issue. however, there are two issues that are bothering me a lot now, since I have recently changed my job, and I am driving around 130 miles everyday.

1. The car on motorway at high speed, when brought to normal running speed i.e. 85 mph to 70 mph it starts giving engine fault and engine sign start coming. If I accelerate again past 80mph it goes away. I dont understand where the problem is. This is happening a few times now everyday.

2. The engine oil consumption is huge. I have to top-up the oil every 2 weeks. The engine runs fine, there is no smoke or anything.

I took the car to a mechanic and his comment was its Fiat, we cant fix any of these issues.

Need help

Since the engine is drinking oil that much, there could be something wrong with the piston ring/s, perhaps stuck. Try to do a motor flush (e.g. Forte) first. The engine fault light is probably ignition fault, could be so much oil in combustion chamber/s that it's messing things up. When the spark plugs have been changed? If a long time ago, change the spark plugs and check the old ones out, if it looks something like the second pic in the link then there's definitely burning some oil (or cooling fluid).

You can read the fault code with OBDII scanner to be sure about the engine fault light. Btw, my Stilo had one piston ring missing straight from the factory! Car drank a lot of oil and finally one valve got burnt... It also flashed engine light sometimes when driving in a highway...

And sorry for my english..
