Newbie here,

Always browse these pages when I have a problem, unfortunately cant find a thread that can help me.

I have a Fiat Stilo 1.4 2004 5dr, when I was about to fill up the petrol my fuel flap snapped off. I tried putting it back on but with no success, so decided to drive home after filing up without the flap on. The cap itself does not close properly (it doesn't screw on) so I was careful not to go fast round a sharp bend that the cap pops out.

Had a closer look at the flap when I got home the plastic bit at the bottom broke off, so wouldn't be able to do the DIY guide we have on this forum to fix it.

I've been seasrching for a fuel flap on ebay and found one although it says its for a Fiat stilo estate, the part number inside the flap advertised is the same part as mine, when I asked the seller would it fit a 1.4 he said its only for an estate, is he right even though the part numbers match?

Also its almost impossible to find the right colour, colour code is 697 any advise on how to respray these things and how much?

I probably have asked a few stupid questions but I don't know much about cars so any help, guidance, link to cheap parts would be helpful.

Thanks

If I am unsure about ebay stuff I search for cars that are being broken and ask them if the part is available. If your part numbers are the same its a pretty sure bet it will fit. Only reason I cant see is if the hinge differs but you could swap that with your one if it comes apart.

The fuel flap is a different part number for 3 door, 5 door and estate versions.

GPz that's the exact same listing I was looking at. The part number is exactly the same as mine, but after asking the question to the seller he says its only for estate models.

I'm at a loss as to what I should do, don't really want to be driving around with no fuel flap......the only thing that's pretty much holding the cap in place is a bit of sellotape, which will come off with the rain around Birmingham.

Thanks for your help Gpz unfortunately he had sold the fuel flap, but you put me on the right direction I was only searching for fuel flap on ebay didn't think to look for spares and ask the question, feel stupid for not realising that. So far no luck everyone seems to have sold their fuel flaps. Anyone know of any good fiat breakers in/near birmingham?

Went to a few scrappies in birmingham found a blue flap which is nothing like my current colour but will have to do at the moment. Next stop actually putting it on, the blue is attached to the hinge so how do I take the current hinge off any ideas?

If you mean off the car look at the parts list picture that Davren pested up there ^^ Looks like one screw and its off. Google vinyl wrap and try and find some in your area. You may be able to get a small sheet with a close colour to your car. Save painting just to make a naff job if anything like me at painting.

Mine flap on mine was hard to open when got my stilo, thought it was guna snap off, sprayed the hinge with wd40 and it opened fine, I just spray the hinge every month now and work perfect

I can see theres one bolt to remove but I don't have a clue how to get to that bolt.....do I need to take off the wheel arch/bumper to get to it?

what is the issue with paint?, get the correct one for your car and get it sprayed. I had to have a door mirror re sprayed when some one decided they would knock it off and it cost me 30 notes cash to get it done professionally.
Have a look around for body shops and they will match it and get it nice again for you.

Just remember to apply lub to the new hinge, i regually put petroleum jelly on all the hinges of the car especially the fuel cap as they are prone to breaking.

No Problem with painting, just found a flap that matches my colour. Don't think I can take off the hinge from the car to replace it (looks like a have to take wheel arch off, not comfortable doing that), so will take it to a mechanic

Thanks for all your help

I have a fuel sensor problem which I may post soon if I cant find a thread on it

The part I ordered came with the hinge attached, rather than remove the 2 pins, I would rather replace the whole flap with hinge, just so it stays sturdy. I had a go at removing the pins without over exerting pressure but didn't want to snap it off (took me ages to find the right part with the right colour).

Main reason for not doing the DIY is because Im pretty much useless at it

Note for everyone

The fuel flap is the same on 5 door and 3 door Stilo.

I have a 5d Stilo 1.2 16v and replace the missing flap with a flap from 3d Stilo 1.6 16v.

Cheers
