New problem and I am a bit of a beginner. Engine will not start and the Austrian AA came over and told me in German what the problem is. Emission management, better to include a photo.
Please could someone tell me what this is and the part number.
Off on holiday now overseas but car needs a service so will be buying all the parts while I am gone so everything ready when I get back in 3 weeks.

The part arrowed red in your first picture is the glow plug relay.

The grey corroded part in the centre of your second picture is the EGR valve.

what faults are you getting, are you getting glow plug fault?.
If your not starting looking at it without any other information i would say its your glow plug relay as davren already pointed out.
But there are a lot of other faults that will stop the car starting, cam / crank sensor, water in the fuel system, fuel cut off (have you checked this?) the list goes on. You need to let us know what the symptoms / fault codes are.

Sorry Davren I could not get a good enough picture manager to make it better. But yes ok that would be the EGR valve. Car gives no error codes and the AA plugged in the laptop and got to the EGR valve.
Would it be possible to give it a clean or just buy the part. Anyone now how much a new unit costs?
I did notice a thread on cleaning it out.
Engine cranks but it seems no fuel was getting through. Got it started by hitting the valve with a rubber hammer. Revving the engine...stayed at low revs and was spewing out white smoke like there is no tomorrow.
that's all I can tell you now and I will need to get the car towed now as it won't start.

If its a 8v just blank it off and forget, the car will be much more responsive and your fuel consumption will be better.
Mines done around 75k since it was blanked.
