Hi all,
Need a little advice. Had a problem with my rear brakes a while ago, specifically the o/s. Turns out the caliper had seized. So obviously I fitted a new one, reconnected everything, bled the caliper and away i went. I recently discovered that the o/s doesn't hold the car nearly as well as the n/s. I have adjusted the handbrake cable and although it has improved the performance, it still doesn't hold as well plus now it feels like the car is dragging. Anyone have any ideas what to do to improve this as I have my NCT (MOT) soon?
Cheers,
Mick

when you fitted replacement caliper did you release handbrake cables before hand and once completed what work was need with caliper and fitted back to car did you press brake pedal with engine running for approx 10 to 20 good firm press's of brake pedal first before commencing to set handbrake adjustment , also worth checking cables move freely in the outer sleeves as you will be working in the area again, if you have had to replace handbrake cables in past, I have tried pattern parts for the cables and could not get both sides equal in the end went for gen fiat handbrake cables and resolved the issue I had, though could be worth checking you set caliper piston via brake pedal first as above before setting handbrake cable

I bought pagid cables and they seem really good... onlly down side is the grommets are the incorrect size for the stilo but cable ties fixed that.

As for caliper just check that both of the handbrake arms are in the same position. I had one of mine that had pulled forward and wasn't working as if it had travelled too far and got stuck. All it took was a little twist with some grips and it was soon back to normal. When it over travels it tends to drag the brake.

Check pad thickness whilst youre there it'll save an embarrassing fail ;)

I actually didn't set the piston via the brake pedal first. Would it be worth winding the piston back in and setting it up again?
