I had some new Gabriel rear shocks fitted to my estate (supplied by Unipart), they are absolute French rubbish, the rear ride/bump absorbancy is now very poor. Can anyone recommed any other make of replacemenet rear shocks, if not does anyone know which manufacturer supplies Fiat ? (Fiat just put them in their boxes) Thx

i did all four corners last year shocks and springs.
I used sachs from euro car parts, i waited for the 50% discount days then bought them.
If your only changing the shocks this maybe the reason why your having issues, my car was boat like, and sitting very low. once i changed the springs and shocks the car tightened up and sits at the correct height (well no more crawing over speed humps now).
The rear springs will sag especially as the mw is a heavy car and there is a lot of weight swung over the rear axle, if the springs are this bad the shocks wont make an difference as the car will be sitting low and when you hit bumps it will hit the stops making it feel very hard (mine did this).

did my front springs roy no difference in height rear shocks are shot you saying change springs at same time? i think i should have got the thicker springs for the front and shocks at the same time but i have a list.........

yep do the pair! shocks and springs, on the stilos both are rather easy to do on the rear end. All you need is a good pair of spring compressors and a the usual garage tools (socket set, axle stands, jacks).

Im suprised you havent noticed any ride difference on the front, mine went approx 4cm (initally it was around 6 but settled).
The rear was the biggest difference though, and the ride quality is much better, shocks are there to dampen the amount of movement, but if your springs have sagged then there will be less movement to dampen, this is where you are noticing poor ride quality. Just get standard springs for the estate and you will be fine.
