Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4 Selespeed

Stuck in Neutral, won't go up or down.
Engine starts fine, battery has been disconnected and re-connected.
Screen reads gearbox failure, no fault codes stored.
Any thoughts?

Oh yet another dead selespeed...ok first thing to check, is the pump priming when you open the drivers door?

Need to check pump fuse(s) and then that its getting a power feed to work out if the pump has failed or if its a power supply issue.

As panda says check power and relay, but I'd bet my bottom dollar the pump has had it, you might get lucky. Try tapping the pump see if it springs to life. Prepare for a riduculas £1000 bill like I did. Can I ask how many miles you have done.

Yes of course...I fell in love with my stilo I found it in a forecourt and brought it on impulse, I had it health checked and spent 1900 fixing wear n tear...then 3 weeks later it dropped into neutral and wouldn't select gear. Took it to a specialist and he diagnosed it as the selespeed pump...so he quoted me £980 that's £590 for the new pump from fiat and 3 hours labour (at best) and selespeed oil £20 plus vat about £1000 total. In the end I got a pump from a scrap yard for £50 and got it back on the road, I had to much invested or I would of just scrapped it....at that millage your getting close to needing a new clutch as well although others will disagree that clutch will start slipping in the next 5k in short.. I wish I'd never played eyes on it, worst experience ever! PS if you do replace the pump consider doing the accumulator too as that's probably dead too, ps. Panda might point you in another direction and maybe its just a rely. Good luck.

Yeah there's a couple of things to check before calling it a total disaster.

The main trouble I'm finding is that mechanics know bugger all about it. If it is any of the pressurised parts, they are f****d.

My sentiments are similar, I have had no car for weeks now.

I feel your pain, I went for 3 weeks over Xmas with no car before it was flat bedded to a specialist. A lot if people will tell you to hit the pump and see if it comes alive. Others would plug into it and monitor pressure with the software, with yours its easy....your pump isn't priming so its either a power issues or the pump had seized like mine did.

You really need to take it to a alfa/fiat specialist that's worked on the sele before, um lucky I have 1 on my doorstep, I could push my car to him. And 2 other local indies. What area are you from

Wiltshire. Both Fiat's in the county have never seen Sele before?!

And Alfa is a long way away.

Ouch...have you tried any local indies? Have a dig under the bonet, have a look at the relay seecif its working, check the fuses, the battery voltage too. Its quite atypical for the pump to just die...they normally get sick first and show little subtle symptoms before death. So you might get lucky. Symptoms such as dropping into neutral at the lights and when changing gear but works again a short while later.

Mine needs a new clutch and I'm not prepared to spend anymore, im just driving her until she pops her cloggs now. Shouldn't be too long so I might have what you need very soon lol

ODB2 cable and MES software is wise investment to avoid guesswork. I have just done my clutch as the wear index was getting up there (thanks MES)
I checked the pump and wear on the brushes was minimal. The MES software will tell what the voltages and pump pressures etc are and make diagnosis of troubles much easier.

hey is the clutch a big job, i got quoted about 900+ by my local indie?

You could change the brushes for a few pounds. It's a little tricky to get the pump out, but changing brushes is easy. The whole job takes 4 hours or so.
