Hello all.

Now I have had a look through the forum and read through loads of different threads but haven't been able to find one that helps me :bang:

My Stilo has developed a pretty loud knocking sound from what sounds like the rear of the car, almost like a loud thud as I go over bumps, speed bumps etc... I know what everyone is likely to say (rear axel bush) but I had a mechanic over at the weekend and he looked over it. According to him, all the bushes are very healthy and are showing no signs of being the culprit

Does anyone know of anything else that could be causing this sound? As I said before, it is a loud knocking/clunking sound coming from the rear passenger side of the car...

Please help.........

Many thanks,

Toby.

Funny I took a stilo for a test drive the other week before I bought this one and it had the same know at the same side. The owner insisted not the bush. How does you car sit, could the spring be bust? Your exhaust is also on that side. Grab the end pipe and give it a good shake and listen for knocks. It could be old and worn and if new (new ish) aftermarket stuff does not always fit 100% so may be sitting closer to the underside of the car.

Have a look at your drop links first attached to front wishbone and shock I have had knocking from rear in past and thought the worst that it was rear bushes needed doing but checked for play with front wheels jacked up and had play in drop links, easy cheap fix and solved all knocking also worth checking any front wheel joints/bearings while front wheels are off the ground, but would advise to check drop links before bushes as they do make the sound as if coming from rear...also the play in the drop links was not noticable until the front wheel was off the ground

Just popped out and had a look with a mate who's a mechanic. We noticed that the front passenger side wheel has got play when you push it, on the floor. He thinks it's either the ball joint or the bottom arm. Much cheaper than a rear bush :D thanks for the help!!!
