Right, Ok.

When you say dead - does the car still start and run and the C/L and Dials are faulty?
Or the whole thing isn't responding?
Is the battery in good condition (this is the number 1 recommended check with these car's)
Is the grey fuse box behind the battery dry? Is it still covered or could it have got wet (probably the 2nd most common problem)

Car does still start and drive fine no problems there and the battery looks in pretty good condition dials were working yesterday all of them but today nothing not even the clock but I have just noticed in the dark now that the computer screen has a very faint glow of orange light strange even with ignition off plus the fuse box near battery is missing the cover but looks to be all dry

And have you done anything to prompt this? Had a root under the bonnet or anything?
Can you see the clock in the dark or is it just an orange glow?
It sounds like the instrument cluster might be nackered. There is a chap on here that repairs them from the Netherlands, but I've never read a review of his work (Sure someone will be along shortly to do so)

I have put in my new head unit and sub that's all I've done was all fine yesterday dash was working and locking was working but today it's all playing up and no mate no clock on screen just a faint glow of orange light

Do you think I'm just canning the power supply from the car a leaving the battery knackered is that a possibility I heard to that a poor battery affects certain things on the car how is this so tho battery does still seem to have plenty of power thinking of just taking the sub out now

If the car was working correctly before the installation of the "sub" and it's misbehaving now what would you guess as the probable cause?

Put it back to how it was - carefully!

It wasn't let me give ya a little bit of history I brought the car last Wednesday when I got to the place the guy was charging the battery I took it for a test drive dials was working got back then brought the car so now I'm on my way home about 10 miles or so down the road the dash died about 5 miles later it all came back to life and was fine till this morning which is why I'm asking about the battery and why it affects certain things on the car ie the dash and central locking if it ain't brand new fully charged cos the battery ain't new but does seem to have plenty of power

You could have the common dash/clocks problem like I had. I bought 2nd hand clocks from the scrap yard at £25 what almost fixed the problem. Like you I had the computer back light staying on. Three days it would drain the battery. My 2nd hand clocks have the same problem but intermittent so It will do until I send my original clocks away to be fixed. A company called Dash-Tec will fix them at £120 and give a lifetime guarantee. You post them to them and they post them back.

As GPz says, sounds like a dashboard problem if it cut out "mid-drive"
I wouldn't have thought it was the battery, as the alternator is doing the job whilst your driving.
eBay link to a used one if you want to rule it out

Think I'm going to have to go find a new dash then how do I go about getting the mileage right after spell it out for me please thanks to everyone for help so far does anyone have any ideas in the central locking not working I've checked manual there don't seem to be a fuse the deals directly with that but again sometimes it will work rarely tho takes me a couple if mins standing there doing a combination of lock unlock on key fob and manually putting the key in to get both door pins to go down

I am only saying it sound the same as my problem. I took the gamble at the scrap yard but you can get a set on ebay from 50 odd quid. At least if they are goosed and has a description as working then you have some comeback.
Pull your dash out and pull the multi plug from the back and see if it cures your central locking problem. If it does then you need the dash looked at. You can get the clocks moved forward but not sure about back. Also look at the thread in this section for computer fix. Not sure if the central locking goes through the ECU but might be worth a look.

Ok il pull the dash out next chance I get I got some electrical contact cleaner today so il give the plugs a blast of that do the plugs on the back of the dash click and lock into place wishful thinking that I've just got a loose plug

i have just had my dads instrument clister fixed by dashtec, very quick service, and now my dials have died (cars are around the same age) so i am taking mine out to send off this week

Sorry rat20v but I am thick today. Are you saying the fixed dash is now gone or you and your dad just have the same car and same problem. I am looking to send my original one away to them next month.

I tried to get my dials out today managed to remove the 2 screws and the piece off trim ok but the dial wouldn't come out am I missing something I just got them to tilt right forward but not actually out seem to be glued maybe along the bottom has anyone else experienced this didn't want to tug on them to much so just put them back for now

It will need a good tug. One I got from the scrap yard was a rights B*****d to move but the one in my car almost slid out. I got pliers and pulled that bit trim off the top of the clock off to give more room. Don't stick a screwdriver or the likes under to attempt prising out and you will crack the plastic/glass.

Forgot to say. Two Philips screws at the bottom and two Allen bolts up the top. The Allen are the same size at the steering wheel trim.

The Philips at the bottom are under a bit felt type material that is attached to trim. That needs to come out also before the clocks move but no till you take the screws out (y)
