Hi all, hope you might be able to help, please google has so far been almost useless..

My driver door lock has half broken - I can just about open it manually with the key from the outside but the from the inside the door handle is completely loose (no resistance from the cable or anything). I'm thinking the cable has broken but not sure.

Anyway, I followed the Punto guide on here to help me get the door card off however my door has an additional silver plate on the inside that I need to get past before I can access the lock. Ive taken off all of the bolts around the outside but it still won't come off. I'm wondering if there is anything else I've missed. There are two small circles that look a bit like rivets - do they need to be drilled out? And I also wanted to check if taking this silver plate off will damage the window motor? As I tried unscrewing that and that still didn't want to move.

Any help would be fab - can provide pics of it if needed is a fiat stilo 1.9 JTD if it makes any difference.

Cheers,

Lana :)

You don't have to drill the rivets out if you're just accessing the lock; they are there to hold the window mechanism in place.

Fab thanks for the help - so I basically just take out every screw on the door I can see and it should jump out without the rivets causing any problems?

I tried unscrewing the window motor, took all the screws off but I couldn't get the actual motor off still - something was stopping it. Is this normal?

- Lower the window until clips are visible in access holes. Push the centers through with a screwdriver while someone lifts the glass out.
- Unscrew the 3 torx screws for the lock (T40?)
- Loosen but don't try to remove the small torx screw holding the lock barrel in place (as its fixed and can't be removed from the outside). Then pull out barrel completely.
- Pull outer door handle towards you, then slide towards back of car and and pull off. (May require a bit of force)
- Then unscrew all the bolts holding the inner panel in place
- Pull the top of the panel out towards you then lift the whole thing up and out
- Don't bother messing with the wiring loom, you should have plenty of room to work with it still attached. Just rest the panel on something or get someone to hold it up. The only other thing that should still be connected is the cable that connects to the outer handle, which simply unclips from the outer panel.

(Above applies to 3 door; 5 door version may vary)
