My 52 plate stilo just died on me, went to pull away from a round about and got nothing but revs, clutch still Goes in but nothing from the gear box. Anyone experienced simualr things? If so what was the issue?

Sounds like your clutch is paggerd bud the linings on the clutch plate have probably completely worn away meaning the clutch operates as usual but because there's no linings it won't engage any drive.

Nightmare. It just came from no where, i had been driving around all day and the clutch and gear box have worked fine. I thought I had tried to pull away in neutral by mistake but I hadn't, tried a few times after wards to get it going but nothing but revs.

Will I need a whole new clutch or can the one I have be repaired?

No it's a whole new unit I'm afraid. They either come as a two piece set pr a three piece set. What engine size is it? Also just to clarify can you move the gear stick at all? I.e does it feel like its going in or is there some resistance?

Its a 1.6. It still goes into gear fine. But is as if its in neutral when I try to drive and doesn't stall if I release the clutch with no revs, which made me think it was the gearbox.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the clutch. When gearboxes fail they sieze up and clatter to a halt. About £250-300 if you had it done at a garage I'ld say

Cheers mate. I got AA cover yesterday, so going to give it a day or two then ring them, thankfully its not parked out side my house due to lack of parking spaces, so will be covered by roadside break down. Hopefully they will at least tell me what is wrong and tow me to a garage.

New Clutch

Just had the AA out and the guy told me my Clutch has gone. Completely worn out. Gutted, only had the car 2 weeks. I thought the bite felt high but wasnt sure if it was just because its a completely different car to what I had been driving. how much am I looking at for a new clutch? I'm in the North East.

1.2, 1.8, diesel? I would look at euro car parts and buy it myself and get a mechanic who does homers to fit.

Its a 1.6 16v 52 plate petrol. About 95k on the clock.

Page not shown but I had a quick look for the 1.6 and it had two. One at 70 odd quid and one just over 100. Either will do, depend how rich you are. I am lucky a neighbour who is semi retired is an ex mechanic so I get labour quite cheap. Look on ebay also. I got one for my last car at 50 quid delivered.

Yeah the link took it to the 2 options. How many hours labour will I be looking at to get it installed? The mechanic I usually use charges £30 an hour labour.

Don't know with the stilo but it took 3 hours doing my Pug 306 but we were drinking tea and yakking so we may have done it in just over two hours.

Its at the garage now, £320 for new clutch and labour, he is also resecuring my Exhaust in that price because it was lose and hanging low.

while your at it get the diff pin replaced, ive had two 1.6 gearboxes explode because of this pin, yours in in the batch that have the faulty pin and im suprised its lasted this long as both of ours went around 70k.

i would do the oil seal on the gearbox as well
