got another problem with the doors on my Stilo.

Thought I'd add some wd40 to the key on the drivers door. Turned the lock once or twice and inserted the key in and out so that it would operate more smoothly.
Now the key won't unlock the door.
I already have a problem with the doors not opening remotely now the only way I can get into the car is through the boot?
From the inside the central locking function works and I can raise the locking buttons manually on both the driver and passenger side but still neither door opens from the inside or outside of the car even when the buttons are raised in the open position.
I'm guessing if it was just the one door it would be the mechanism but I'm at a loss as to why neither opens.
Anyone have any ideas?

Just to add to my last post. I've been inside the car and noticed that the central locking only works intermittently. ie will always lock but on occasion need to use the handle to raise the buttons. However no matter what I try I cannot get the doors open.

Could very well be, reading some of the other threads. However none of the recommended solutions has worked for me.
I noticed on the previous owners last mot that they had to force open the passenger door for it too pass but the bill did not indicate that they had repaired anything unless they did it gratis.
I'm getting more and more disillusioned by the day. I know I was ripped off ( found out that the seller was a partner of a garage ). I really like the car but my garage bills have long past exceeded what I paid for her.
Oh well (sigh!!!). At least I'll have practically a new car by the time I've finished.

Right. Have you tried the usual deadlock procedures?

Double-click unlock on the remote quickly? or insert key and turn left, left, right or right, right, left.

If the car is fully locked with you in it, is it possible to pull the internal handle to open the door?\

and
What's the weather like there? Cold, freezing conditions?

I recently had a similar problem, and my mechanic suggested forcing the door open, but I gently resolved the issue myself without breaking anything.

Tried turning the keys as suggested but no luck. The key is meeting some resistance when turning it anti clockwise. When inside the neither the drivers nor passenger door opens. The door buttons rise but the doors don't budge.
The deadlocking switch on the drivers door will retract the door buttons and put them in the locked position again but it's a bit hit & miss when it comes to opening them.
The remote fob has never worked , both partners said it only needed a new battery when they sold it to me tried all suggestions to get that to work , again no success.
Oh and the weather is quite mild so I don't think it's that.
Thanks for you're suggestions.

Oh dear. Whats your plans then ?
Could open up the door and see what's going on in there?

Took the door panel off, opened it at the lock mechanism, then oiled it all up, starting working fine.

But my problem was mainly with the door handle and cold weather.

Yours has got resistance somewhere.

Last suggestion that is always suggested: disconnect battery for 30 mins

Went at it today with a friend and with a bit more luck than judgement managed to release the door.
One thing he noticed that I didn't was that when turning the key to the lock position it was springing back on its own.
He also could here that part of the mechanism sounded like it was moving when I pressed the lock button inside the car. Anyhow it seems to be working fine at the moment.
I only have a theory as to what happened.Despite me not getting it to work the previous owners said that they always used the remote key to open the door.Is it possible that over time the key cylinder got gunged up so to speak and me putting wd40 only made the matter worse to the point that the pins in the lock didnt drop into place and as a consequence the door wouldnt open?

Sounds more promising than yesterday.

Dunno what had happened there. Have a look at the door handle spring and weight, located quite high and deep in the car door, should move freely.

Well I thought I was going to be able to close this thread and concentrate on the remote fob. but..........
Just went out to the car and could I open the door (No).
After 5 mins of trying it surprisingly opened when I simultaneously turned the key and operated the handle to work the door. Sheer chance maybe?
Closed it and tried again and it worked fine first time.
Somethings sticking somewhere it seems.

Just to add to the last post. Went to the car again to put a few parts needed for the repair to be done same problem again and don't believe it has anything to do with the handle that was just random.
This time I had a problem locking it tried a number of times before it eventually decided to lock.
Hopefully all these little details may help someone diagnose the problem.

My central locking lost the code for the key fob to be recognised when using the the remote. Recoded it by multiscan but had to get the code from FIAT steallers for a tenner. Works fine now.

That's cheap, everyone else is saying it costs substantially more?

More pointers maybe?
This time when it wouldn't open by any other method , opened the boot ready to climb in, went back to the door to try one last time , and yes it opened straight away.
"Reminds me of an old Steven King movie "Christine". I beginning to think my car is possessed and hell bent on driving me insane?

More pointers maybe?
opened the boot ... went back to the door
Combination maybe?

I had a few strange problems with my doors, and it got worse when I sprayed WD40 in the lock mechanism, but after an hour my problem (and the new ones) was gone. I had oil dripping down a cable connection thats underneath the mechanism, and that generated random locking and unlocking of the system but when it dryed out it seem to have loosen up some umm...don't know the name, but much like rust..? Anyway problem came back after a few days and I repeated, same result and fine since then.
