Hi,

I'm new to the forum, I just got a lovely Stilo 1.2 Active 16v (AC) 2003, it's got 48k on the clock and with one old owner/ VOSA history and the general good nick of the car I think the millage is legit... I hope.

So for my peace of mind it needs a cam belt, tensioner, aux belt and water pump. I put some new discs on it, changed the filters and fluids but I think a cam belt is a little out of my league. I checked the guide on here and a few videos on youtube and I'd probably enjoy taking my time and figuring it out but I don't have a garage or the time so I'll have to pay the professionals.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in or around Leeds? I'm not after the cheapest guy out there but at the same time don't fancy paying Fiat garage prices.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

48k! how high  Only joking mate. I got a 02 plate a couple of weeks ago with 43k, also old MOT's to back up mileage. What is the cam belt recommended change miles? I have a FSH with stamps but none mention cam belt. What price am I looking at for a garage to do the job?

I was a little suprised when I checked the recommened change times too but then again the fiat belts must be fairly strong, I got my stilo with 86k on the clock with no record of the belt being changed in its 11 years. Looked that way when it came off the car too!
This doesn't mean to say you shouldn't change it!

No I will still be getting mine done. If original its still 12 years old. I like to know for sure when things were done. Why don't people write these things on the engine anymore? The last three 2nd hand cars I have had have never been marked but all before have.

Not saying they all are lying gits but never trust a seller without proof.

Hi mate, I have the same thing fsh but had no idea when the TB was done last. You could try phoning the garage that did the last service or two if their still in business. I spoke to a few local mechanics and they wouldn't do the TB for me they said because it's a 16v they needed special tools to lock the pulleys and cams :/ ended up calling the local fiat deal and they are gonna do it for £207 all in. I bought the timing belt kit, water pump, aux belt and anti freeze from euro parts myself so the £207 is just for labour.

If you've not tried them yet try Turin Motors in Sheepscar, they're a Fiat/Alpha specialist, i've used them once but they're not the cheapest around

Fiat would be a last resort mate. You can get a locking tool on ebay for about 25 quid. If I cant find an independent I may just attempt it myself. I have done a few cars years ago but never a full kit, just the belt. What can go wrong :D
