I need to do same as you on my 2.4. If you change it before me please document all steps if you are able so that we could help other people.
Sure, just keep in mind that this how I did, not necessary the right or easiest way. :)
It's pretty straightforward and takes roughly 2 hours. You'll need a 13mm spanner, nipper, flat screwdriver and jubilee clips (you'll break the old).

First remove the air intake, it has three clips, two at the top that you'll see right the way and one at the bottom. I changed my air filter so I had it completely removed but I guess you don't need to do that, just release the upper two and twist it until it's out of the way? Also on the picture I removed the battery tray but that was to access the earth cable, it's not necessary for thermostat change.



This is optional but I removed the cables because I knew the clips would be a bitch to remove. There are two cables that goes below thermostat, one to the MAF sensor and one at the bottom of engine (just follow it), when released you may just pull them up and put them some were.




Now release the coolant fluid. I did this by removing the lowest of the radiator hoses, you may follow the big one shown in next image and it's right below that one.

When you got all fluid out release the frist three hoses (red), there will be some fluid in it so have a container and rag ready. Also make sure you dont get fluid in the air intake and MAF sensor. Then remove the upper hose (orange), the sensor cable (blue) and the actual sensor so it don't get damaged in the process. Now you can release the two bolts with a 13mm spanner, the one below is shown in last image. Remove the light green and green hoses, one of these (the biggest) was troublesome to deal with, I used a screwdriver and pushed the clip upwards and then cutted it of, then loosen the hose with a flat screwdriver and pulled the whole thermostat towards me.



Put it all back and fill up with fluid. I never found any bleed screws so I guess engine gets rid of the air it self? Mine working fine at least, tho I had the cap off and kept filling it up as it dropped (monitor it).



It's really nice with a warm car again :)

I found access to the bottom bolt easier by buying this (13mm) spanner.
I didn't bother removing the battery tray.
