Hi guys,

I am geting this two messages with soun alarm several times a day during driving. They stay on display for about 15 seconds than only asr (left form center of speed dial) lamp at dashboar stays on. When I restart my car this msg. are not present anymore.


I have been reading and collecting info. on this error, but I can not see that anyone have been succesfull with eliminating this problem. I have collected (copy/paste) three pages of writings about this err.

Can somebody tell me what should I do.


I ride 1.8 Stilo 2002.

I used to get this message a lot, but then it seems to have cured itself now that the brake light is not stuck on anymore [which would make sense I suppose].

Are there any other faults with the car?

I'd put my money on the brake pedal switch.

its the brake pedal switch.
replace it, its about 35 euro. i had it replaced, problem never came back.

I have had multiple problems with my brake lights; the dealer decided to replace all the linkages first time round, then did the switch a few weeks back - seems to be working now, with no ASR/ESP errors

I will have my brake swich checked or even replaced.

And this systems - do they really get switched off, when this msgs. get displayed?

One way to check - are your brake lights stuck on, even though you are not touching the pedals?

As for the systems, I would have thought YES, but maybe a techie will know different.

If the system detects a fault (be it a real fault or a 'gremlin' fault) the affected system will indeed stop working.

Depending on age, it should be covered under warranty so get Fiat to sort it, but the car is fine to use even if ESP/ ASR are not working, it just means that you might get wheelspin if pulling away on an uneven (grip wise) surface and if you get it badly wrong in a corner your car can't do much to help. Both systems are a bonus and useful, but you can live without until it is fixed
