hi I am new to this but here goes,
just bought a stilo 1.2 16v active for my wife the main headlight comes on,but will not go off until you turn off the ignition,
had a friend look at it with a multimeter and he said the relay is powering up but not switching off it is just staying live the car just failed its mot because if this as the main beam is not going off or flashing can anybody help please i cannot afford to get an auto electrician

So you need to confirm is it the main beam or dipped beam which is always on?

the main beam is always on it only goes off when you turn off the ignition,all the other lights work as they should.

Is the main beam icon constantly lit on the dash when the ignition is on? If not does it come on when you pull the stalk to flash someone

the main beam icon comes on on the dash when you pull the stalk back and goes off when you release the stalk,but the main beam lights on the car stay on until you turn off the ignition..

Hopefully its a sticky relay. Try swapping the main beam relay with the dipped beam relay in the fuse box. If the problem moves to the dipped beam when you do this then it'll be a replacement relay that you require. Will be no more than abou a fiver

have swapped relays but when I swapped them the main beam didn't work at all even though the dash icon lit up!!

It should have worked or done the same. Might be worth a try again just in case. Which relay did you swap it with

will give it a try again in the morning thanks for the help,
will post it up tomorrow..

aargh changed all relays and fuse box still got same problem think I am gonna take a sledge hammer to the thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So when Relays are swapped the main beams are still on, not moving to the circuit the other relay is from?

If so then its looking at being a fault with the body computer

thanks for all your input,the car is now at an auto electricians to be looked at.my wife decided it is for the best as I have lost patience with it,6 hours in the rain is enough..
