Hi all.

just bought myself a stilo jtd 115 on a 52 plate with a few bits and bobs that need doing.

1/ Surprisingly it has an airbag lamp on! Foolishly thinking that it would just be underseat connections, I have no communication with airbag ECU, however I dont work for FIAT anymore so Im not sure how much I trust the scanner Im using. My old Stilo workshop manual wont run on my new PC so I wondered if anybody had a link to the wiring diagrams please?

As these Stilo's have got older is it common for the airbag ECU's to go down completely on them, or is it more likely a wiring fault?

2/ The driveshaft support bearing is really noisy, has anyone ever come up with an ingenious fix for them, ie a bearing that can be pressed in etc, or is anyone selling one?

3/ the nearside headlamp is pointing at the floor and wont adjust, does anyone have one for sale please?

4/ parcel shelf is missing so again in the market for one.

5/ so im cracking on a bit now and my memory isnt what it used to be, but it appears theres a silencer box or something missing off the bottom of the airbox? there used to be something there by the look of it, and i have a spare pipe coming from the turbo inlet that at the moment is just venting to atmosphere. Block it off or new airbox?

6/ The alloys that came with it are scruffy old TSW's if anybody has a half decent set for sale I might be interested :)

Just sold my blades but I have a set of 15's if you want them?

I have the parcel shelf available and I have removed my airbag ecu, if you trace your fault to the ecu you can have mine. Pm if you are interested.

Mate its a stilo. Most of them were unloved when new.

300 quid for a 52 plate dynamic. 80k. Full service history. Bodyworks mint. Looking at ebay et al and what price some of the crap on there goes for I thought not bad really.

Hard to find cheap cars down this way that dont look like theyve been parked in the sea ;)

Hey, 300 sounds sweet enough for a JTD. I know what you mean about the rust, customer of ours at my last place worked down Brighton or somewhere, car looked he left it on the beach at night!

If that service included a cambelt, and if you can fix the current problems, then you've scored an absolute bargain. Welcome to StiloLand.

Lol yeah anything that comes from Cornwall and it's jack and axle stands time before I even pay a deposit.... ;)

Yeah I thought it was a good price. Like most Fiat's I've bought cheap, it's been used as a cheap runabout, so stuff like wondering why the aircon isn't great then finding the aircon compressor missing just makes me chuckle.

Not sure if it's been belted but I've seen a kit on ebay for 57 quid so I reckon if its on the road fully taxed, belted and MoT'd for 450/500 the it's been a worthwhile project.

It pulls like a train and so far it's cost me 25 quid to get it through the MoT, that's 22 odd quid for an OSF coil spring and 2.50 for a bacon bap in exchange for a CV boot ;)

Can anyone shed any light on this no communication with Airbag ECU please? I still can't find a wiring diagram and I have a week left before my free retest runs out. Is it common for the airbag ECU's to go down at this age or are there sneaky connector problems etc.

Not sure if it's just the fact I'm using a Snap-On Solus, is it worth trying multiecuscan?

To know whats wrong with the air bag is to check the error code and see where the problem is, at will at least guide you where to look and whats wrong with it.

Which means I need to be able to communicate with it first :)

I was looking to get one of these but by seller I was informed that it would not work with airbag problems, as its only to show info of the car when stationery and on the move like torque ect. Try contacting seller first before you buy it.

welcome to the club, sounds like you bought yourself a nice little project - doesn't sound too bad to me.

the air box thingy, temporarily you can fit a pop bottle, water bottle or anything that can be sealed - I think its an oil catch wotsit.

The air bag light - probably IS the connection under the passenger seat - perhaps remove seat, unplug wiring, clean up and reconnect without fixing seat down to test - if that fails you can buy a little module that will fix the error I believe.

I don't have nay of those spares for sale but im certain you will pick them up, the headlight is probably goosed I suspect the mechanism has failed but you'd have to remove the rear covers to find out and its one of those jobs that if you go to those lengths, you may as well replace the unit!

Don't know about the DS bearing, shouldn't be difficult to get sorted though.

personally, id get hold of a laptop, and a ELM and Multiscan as I find those tools invaluable for these cars and you will find out very quickly what the issue is with your airbag and anything else you find later. As said, if you're local, I don't mind helping out if I can!

good luck with the car, let us know how you get on!

Thanks for all the others of help but Im in sunny Plymouth so I'm probably gonna have to dig out the old laptop and try and get it working with FES etc.

Just figured a fairly recent Snap On scanner should be reliable enough.

The headlamp Ive fixed, took it out, fiddled around with it for a bit, couldn't fix it so lost my rag with it and got some spray grease and an air ratchet on it. Job done, headlamps aligned!

Ive found a company close to me on ebay that does bearings so I'm hoping I can strip the bearing off and match up then press in a new one as mentioned previously.

Haven't had time to strip and look, does the bearing stay on the shaft or in the housing connected to the block?

Anyways I'm enjoying restoring it to it's former glory ;).

Next job is a full strip on a 147 on my driveway. Summer project then.....

Just an update

Airbag ECU won't talk to either a Solus, a Verdict or FES with a K-Line and some adaptor plugs. Still can't find a wiring diagram so think I'm gonna go blind on the ECU.

The driveshaft support bearing is usually £138+vat from Fiat as it comes as part of the alternator mounting bracket. Ive managed to repair it for £21 by just fitting a bearing. It's dimensions are outer circumference 62mm, internal boss diameter 35mm, width/depth 20mm.

The bearing part number was 60897224, made by F.A.G.

There's a company called ICS in Saltash, Cornwall that will happily supply this if any of you guys need it.

Cambelt done today with a genuine kit off ebay, if anyone has an air con compressor let me know!

I'm getting there! :)

well, I got mine from here, though I don't recall paying £29.99 maybe I did:

works perfect, used it lots of times and glad I have it. I cant remember exactly what Multiscan does, but I do recall blower tests/heater tests and so on...!

does multiscan tell you what lead to use for the blower stuff? also do you need the full version to turn stuff off like the alarm?

yes - if you have the wrong lead plugged in it flags up to swap it, though I THINK for the blowers etc its all on one lead (the green one I think). I did have to swap mine once for something (to yellow) but I cant think why. Multiscan does a heck of a lot, not 100% sure on turning the alarm OFF but there are options in there for alarm related stuff, flashing lights, central locking and so on. Sorry, im not being too helpful its been about 6 month since I used mine!!
