Hi All,

Been a while since I actually had an issue with my Stilo (fingers crossed).

I have noticed that when going round particularly sharp roundabouts or corners the 'Low Oil Pressure' warning comes on. Please note that the car doesn't cut out, or change in its performance.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dom

Low oil level

I am normally good with my oil and topping up. So have re topped up. Lets hope, otherwise could I have a potential leak or dodgy sensors (resume normal stilo behaviour... )

yep that typical LOW OIL behaviour.
If its a 1.6 check for a leak on the oil pressure gauge, it has a black plastic housing and when fails (back of the engine block approx in the middle (ive had 2 go)) you lose bucket loads of oil.

Another effect of a failing oil pressure gauge is that oil is sprayed everywhere in the engine compartment and under the car (all of it) all the way to the back box. The radiator fan gives it a real aerosol effect.

Besides this, you have too little oil. Could also be a non genuine filter without the return valve function, but that usually causes low oil pressure at startup.

Cheers All,

Should have made known its a 1.6 - I topped up at lunch so will check after work for any spillages.

Any other issues I could experience? Also excuse my nieveity but what is a correct amount of oil to use?

you may not notice oil on the road, as if it is the sensor then the oil may not escape until the pressure has built up. as mort said look for oil on the exhaust, your firewall, and surrounding equipment.
The sensors that failed on my old cars were the same as a breather blocked back in the day (old ford engines mainly). i wouldnt lose the oil until the car was running.
Are you getting low oil message when starting?
Another thing to check is the oil filter, ive also came across oil filter not being tight thus loosing oil on the seal.
When my old 1.6 (rip) had this fault i was loosing approx 1 litre ever 3 days until i could fix it, just top up on the dipstick and get it fixed asap.
I think i spent more on oil than the part actually cost in the end.

There is no correct amount of oil for topping up, you need to check the level on the dipstick and top up accordingly. If you just top it up without checking, you could over fill it, which could cause more problems.
.

Mine gobbles oil, about 1/2 L a week, and flashes up engine stop on a roundabout when it gets low.
