Hello

Need to replace thermostat

found some cheap one from Multipla 1.9 JTD

on photos, they are absolutely identical, but the codes are:

46790296 multipla
46790294 stilo

would it work?

and one question, Crankshaft pulley is making tremendous knocking noise, I know it needs replace but what would be with it at the and? new pulley is shipping in 2 weeks and I want to use car :(

it the rubber only for sound profing there? will pulley came apart at last?

thanks

The Fiat parts catalogue shows part number 46790296 as not suitable for a Stilo, and part number 46790294 as not suitable for a Multipla so they must be different.

  • Perhaps one or more the various pipes on the thermostat are at a different angle to suit the space under the bonnets of the different cars.
  • Perhaps they operate at different temperatures.
  • Perhaps the seller has used the same picture for both thermostats.
If the crankshaft pulley is making a "tremendous knocking noise", do not start the engine until you have replaced it. The two parts of the pulley could seperate and cause damage to the timing belt.

From your pictures, it looks like the 2 plastic pipes next to the temperature sensor are at different angles. In the top picture they look parallel, in the bottom picture they look at an angle to each other.

You can't disassemble the pulley. The two parts are fixed together with a rubber moulding. The pulley has been modified, so you may need to get 4 shorter bolts to fit the new one.

yeah, checked with mine, seems parallel for mine, but not problem if it would be little angled.

whats about vernet thermostates?

thats pulley sound :)

will it last a week or two? apprx 200-300km ?

What is a vernet thermostat?

thats pulley sound :)

Can't tell from that noise whether it's the crankshaft pulley making the noise or something else. The tapping noise sounds too regular for the crankshaft pulley. When the crankshaft pulley is worn, you can sometimes move the outer part by hand without the inner part moving.

Will I have a headache in a week or two? ;)

changed pulley - almost all knocking sound is gone, about the 60% of total engine sound

and much less vibration is felt, the old one was almost done

now waiting for termostat and think to clean egr and remove blocking plate
