Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4 Petrol

Drivers door won't open from the outside or inside.

Don't think its a frost issue, because its not that kind of weather.

It feels like there is nothing there, you pull on either and it doesn't feel like anything is attached behind it.

So if it is one of those things, I need to get in there see whats going on. My question:

How do I get in there when the door is shut?
Is it possible to open it somehow? or
Is it possible to remove the panel and get my hands in there with the door still shut?

I have looked at previous threads, they don't have the issue of having both sides going at the same time.

Hi. Probably the dead lock is jammed, try putting the key in and it’s either left, left and right or right, right then left, and you may need to do it a few times before it releases.

No I'm afraid not, I pulled off the fascia just enough to get to the inside handle.

The cord had come off of the inside handle. Pulled it, nothing.

Its fallen off the other end too.

So tried to get in further, but there is no way to get inside without having the door open.

What to do?

I can get my hand fully into the mechanism now.

But what do I do? What do I pull?

I can't find any internal pictures of a front door, but the catch mechanism is probably similar to the one in the picture below of a rear door.

You would need to push the metal lever that the cable is attached to (in your case was attached to) forwards.

Hm...

The cable is attached. I've pushed that lever forwards and nothing happens.

So far:

Internal handle fully attached.
External handle not attached.

Door doesn't open.

So I'm thinking it's a deadlock jam and external handle unattached.

So going to a FIAT garage soon  unless anyones got anything else.

Try this.

With all the doors closed, press Unlock with your key.
Do not open any door, the car after 1 minute aprox, will lock again automatically.

Then try to unlock the car with the key and then try to open the door again.

Gonna get hold of a lock mechanism.

Is the lock mechanism the same for Stilo and Stilo Abarth?

What is passive entry?

Keyless entry and start. Also known as "EasyGo"

You have a small fob that stays in your pocket. If you're within a few metres of the car, the doors unlock. As you walk away from the car it locks.

You start the car with a Start/Stop button on the dashboard, but only if the fob is inside the car. Very few UK registered Stilos had passive entry.

Problem is close to resolution.

The internal handle was attached, the external handle was attached, but the mechanism was getting totally jammed up.

Can open the door using a screwdriver, but then it locks up so can't close the door without again using a screwdriver to reset it.

Must have been cold weather that finished it off, so gonna get it out, put a whole new one in, get some good lube on it.

If you need any tips on dismantling the door, give us a shout.

Cheers bud.

Was just gonna wing it really.

Disconnect glass, hold it up.
Pull off metal panel.
Screw off lock mechanism.
Insert new. and assemble everything back.

Sound good?

Close enough.

- Lower the window until clips are visible in access holes. Push the centers through with a screwdriver while someone lifts the glass out.
- Unscrew the 3 torx screws for the lock (T40?)
- Loosen but don't try to remove the small torx screw holding the lock barrel in place (as its fixed and can't be removed from the outside). Then pull out barrel completely.
- Pull outer door handle towards you, then slide towards back of car and and pull off. (May require a bit of force)
- Then unscrew all the bolts holding the inner panel in place
- Pull the top of the panel out towards you then lift the whole thing up and out
- Don't bother messing with the wiring loom, you should have plenty of room to work with it still attached. Just rest the panel on something or get someone to hold it up. The only other thing that should still be connected is the cable that connects to the outer handle, which simply unclips from the outer panel.

(Above applies to 3 door; 5 door version may vary)

Good luck!

Right, getting near the end. Last question.

What is the best way to reattach the end of the internal rod to the rear of the internal?

My plastic bit on the end will not go in the hole! And I want a firm solution that will not slip off.
