Hi guys, this is my first post so be easy

I have a 2003 Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD 5 door. I have had it just over a year and suddenly I am having 1 problem after another so I seek some advise from you guys.

Firstly my remote central locking has not worked since I have purchased the car. It has not been much of a problem till today when the boot has stopped opening. I cannot open it with a key for some reason it doesn't go in it just seems welded or something and when pressing the boot button you can hear a click noise but it wont open??? I managed to get my daughters pram out of the boot by putting the rear seats down and dragging the pram out but I cannot see myself doing this every time I take her out. Any help or support welcome...

Secondly my car has over the last month been making a screeching noise from nearside wheel not 100% sure which but I think it may be the back. The car drives smooth however after approx 5 miles once it has been driven the noise appears from the wheel. It goes away when pressing the brake pedal and tends to be louder when turning right???

The list goes on and on but the last issue I wish to mention is regarding the warning lights on my dash. The ABS and ESP failure message appears when starting the car. This happened first when my car battery was weak however after changing the battery a few months ago the message still keeps coming on every time i start the car. Now I am uncertain whether the ABS and ESP has really messed up or does the car need to be reset or something.

I paid quite a deal for this car last year and was very happy with it until there are problems after problems just building up. I would love to get these fixed and as I am on a budget I would like to give it a go at fixing these myself to save a few bob.

I am sorry to bombard you guys with all these in my first post but I would appreciate any help in these matters.

Thanks guys!...

Hi!

I have the same car as you do and I had the same problem with the boot. The electrical switch didn't work and I the key wouldn't go into the lock.
What I did was take out the lock and with a lot of something like WD40 and a lot of wiggling with the key I managed to fix the lock. The problem was that it was filled with rubbish, so it took a while but eventually it worked ;)

Unfortunately I cannot help you with the other issues you have. Hope you find a solution :D

Squeeling may be a stuck brake piston (lots of threads on here with people having seized pistons on the rear, including me a couple of months ago.) - the noise may be more prominent after a while as the disc heats up. The other point to look at are the metal shields around the back of the brake disc - make sure theres decent clearence between them and the discs. Also, as the discs wear, they can get an outer lip which squeels on the edge of the brake pad as you drive - worth checking that.

ABS - need error codes from it really as you'll be stabbing in the dark otherwise, but my guess would be a bad sensor or ABS ring - to know which one would require code reading really.

Boot making the noise but not unlocking may be a bad boot popping solenoid - they're only plastic rack-and-pinion type solenoids with an electric motor so they can fail. I also had this except fortunately mine broke in the 'popped' position and so wouldn't stay shut which made access for repair a lot easier. You can probably still get the boot lid trim off with it closed though from the inside which should be enough to get to the mechanism to be able to manually pop it open.
