Had a look through the site as I've just bought an '03 Stilo 1.6 16v and within a week got an engine fault message. Seems to be a common occurance! No issues with it running except the light on and the engine fault message. Coils seem to be a common problem but was wondering if an advisory note on it's last MOT may have something to do with it? Advisory says front exhaust has a minor leak of gasses. Would this bring up an engine fault message? Is there anything I can do with limited mechanical knowledge to eliminate the coils? Had the plugs out tonight and they seem to be OK colour and gap wise. Any help appreciated.

As above really. Unless you have a misfire then coils are ok, i'd expect a code for a lambda sensor if it's running ok. It would be worth buying a cheap OBD code reader off ebay so you can read/clear the codes yourself. When you have a code get back to us & we'll try to help.

Just waiting to organise diagnostic but have noticed sometimes when starting from cold I get the message "High coolant temperature" as the needle swings to H then back to C. Sticky needle?
