Hello

Today i heard a squealing noise coming from my front brakes as i'm driving. It doesn't happen all time though, it did it after i filled up for about a mile but then not for rest of the day. I've had new discs and pads so what else could it be? Caliper...?

I'm still glad i didn't buy that Volvo!:D

Thanks

Phil

I used to get this when I fitted Mintex pads. Apparently they are a fairly hard pad and the dust used to cause a squeal when driving on smooth roads (not many smooth roads in Nottingham).
I solved it by fitting Unipart pads which have softer friction material creating different brake dust.
A good jet wash on the front brakes used to cure it for about a week before I found the answer.

id have them checked. Should have had copperslip applied. I would then check if caliper is sticking - evidence will be uneven wear on the pad or scoring on the disc...also when the disc is COLD, run your finger down it - shouldnt be any unevenness...

Clivvys right should have had copper slip on the ends of the pads aswel as the rear where the piston pushes against the pad. Usually when a disc/pad change has happened there will usually be some squealing as the pad beds in. Sometimes when it happens to me I find a nice quite road and slam the brakes on or rest my foot on the brake pedal whilst driving for 5 seconds but only do this when there's nobody behind you. Sometimes the sharp sudden jerk sets them in.

To reiterate Georges comment, I'd find out what make of pads were fitted. I had Eicher brake pads all the way round a few months ago and no matter what I tried, I just could not get the front pads to shut up! Just replaced them this week with Bosch pads even though there still tons of pad still left and its instantly solved the squeel.
Also check that the pad clips are not cracked or broken and (as already mentioned) grease up the backs and edges of the pads.

Eicher are the cheap crap Euro sell as a budget brand, Pagid ones aren't much more from them. To be fair, this has been a growing problem over the last decade or so since they stopped putting asbestos in brakes & clutches they can all squeal a bit. If your mechanic is happy to fit pads without applying copper slip i'd find a better mechanic.
