Technical Suspected paggerd abarth thermostat?

Hi Gadge, you have the same problem I did when I first got my stilo, I done my thermostat when I first bought my schumy, the clips where a bit of a pain but just broke them off and replaced with jubilee clips, I was also told the bottom 10mm bolt is not accessible with a socket, but I managed it no problems at all with no special tools, I think the biggest ball ache was getting the coolant pipes off, I also used a pattern part made by first line fitted perfectly, flushed the old coolant and replaced, since done 6.5k without and issues, warms up in roughly 3-4 miles upto normal working temperature, took me 2 hours start to finish, good luck bud

Too late now but if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I put my exiting temp. sensor back in without problems, After all that's what gave me the indication that the thermostat was knackered in the first place.

The hose clamps were OEM which are one time use only AFAICS so used a combination of side-cutters and screwdriver to remove them without destroying the hoses. The hoses were removed by gently using a screwdriver and twisting.

Replaced all with genuine Jubilee clips.

Ok Christmas came early today for Enzo in the shape of a new thermostat and I have to say it looks pretty good :) it's the right shape and has all the outlets pointing in the right direction and as a billy bonus, it's got "made in Italy" stamped on it (y)

Here's my new one all in and fitted, must say yours looks like a good quality part! Good luck with the fitting, and just a point, euro car parts has pink coolant on offer if you reserve online, depending if your changing or reusing, or going for Paraflu!

And remember no swearing! I'll look forward to seeing your progress tomorrow, good luck!

ok despite a devastating hangover (as predicted :D) I managed to fit my new thermostat. yey. there was some swearing, and some head scatching along with some very welcome cups of coffee supplied by my wife and once i'ld managed to undo the mixture of hose clamps and jubilee clips it was a pretty straight forward affair. I couldn't drain the whole of the coolant out as fiat fitted the bottom hose clamp in such a way that only tinkerbell could get at it so had to just put a drain pan under the area and hope for the best. anyways heres some photos :)

ok so once the induct pipe was out the way the stat was clearly visible, the hose clamps were a pain in the arse and even the jubilee clips were no good after I removed them so if your doing this at home make sure you get some in.

after a lot of faffing and some skin loss I managed to extract the stat and clean the area ready for the new one

and "jay dee" once it was on it was just a case of running it up to temperature, topping the antifreeze/water mixture up and waiting for the fan to kick in which after a bit of hose squeezing finally did at exactly the half way mark on the gauge :)

so hopefully all good for "sausage sunday" in Northampton tomorrow. happy days (y)

Wow just took the car on a road test to where I work which is only about 4 miles away and I can't belive what a difference a new thermostat makes! So much so that I'm starting to think that the stat may have been broken - or certainly on its way out - for quite some time? It gets warm sooooo quick! Usually by the time I do my 4 mile trip to work the temp needle is just over a quarter (last week it wouldn't even get past the "c"!) but now at about two miles into my journey it gets up the the halfway mark and stays there :)

Is it possible that a thermostat can be only half working?

Im thinking that they can 'be on the way out' and start to fail.
My girlfriends new cars thermostat is playing up, wouldnt get upto temp the other day and fluctuates, got a new one to go on there when the cambelt and waterpump is done on wednesday

Glad yours is fixed mate.
