Just bought a little 54 plate 1.4 Stilo. Has a few things need sorting.

Basically it has 76k and has never had a cambelt change (being someone who has experience of Alfa's I know it's lucky it hasn't snapped!)

My question is, do I need to change the waterpump too? I am aware that a new cambelt on an old waterpump can be problematic but am not sure what constitutes and "old" pump on these models.

Any help gratefully appreciated

I always get the pump done on our 1.4 with belt. For the little extra it costs it would be silly not to.

Just had a quick look at part and labour costs for both and you are spot on - guess they'll both be getting done

Any idea if the kits being sold on ebay are worthwhile. Someone is selling gates cambelt kit with waterpump for £67 inc p&p - seems cheap?

OEM parts are under £100 for belt and pump, thats the route I take personally.

I got an SKF kit (belt, pulleys etc) for about £100. Mine is a JTD though, i don't know if price varies for different engines.

While you are getting the belt/pump done , you might also get the auxillary belt replaced -they don't last forever either and cost less than £10 most places.
