Well this morning the ol girl didnt start... ASR, loose connection, and a flashing CODE light. I think ive finally suffered the ECU failure. The battery is strong everything else is in good order as far as I can tell.

Now then... I have an ECU kicking about in the garage, is it absolutely imperative to get it virginised? I'm pretty sure I know the answer but just wanted to confirm with you lot

BBA Reman do BGA Reworks/Reballs for £245 on a 5-10 day turn around... not bad at all! they offer lifetime warranty for same owner on repaired/replaced parts.

Also found a really nice eastern euopean fellow called Alex (I think Polish from his Paypal account) from oop north, who re-virginises the IAW ECUs for a VERY reasonable price! I think ill invite him over here because its always a good service to have for those who need it. His turn around is 2 days!

Ill reset my 'spare' ECU and repair my original one next year I think

iirc hes over in the Netherlands and wanted £70 for the privilege (cash i just cant put my hands on this month)... i may end up using him if this one doesn't work as i dont know anyone else who re-virginises.

ill be honest i couldnt remember what user on here did it and im taking a punt cos i need it fast. its nothing personal to our forum friend just needs must.

replacement ECU in and running (y)

ive lost CC functionality though:cry: tried activating it with MES... still no joy

im usually the man to ask for CC but this one has got me stumped... glad its only a temporary measure until i can get my original fixed.

ECU came out of a 1.6 5 door so i can only assume its an ECU setting...

Richy was it just a replacement engine ECU, plug and play? No issues with codes etc? Or was this one your chap Alex Viriginised for you?

this is said ECU that Alex has virginised for me, yes... plugged it in and she fired first time... no issues what so ever, no coding needed or anything, there was a boat load of faults in it but figured they were probably thrown when re-virginising. erased codes and it hasnt re-faulted yet...

Richy, you mentioned that you 'lost CC functionality' without sounding to dumb, What is this? I've also been thinking about getting an ECU from Alex. I've been suffering with warning messages and intermittent cut outs with irratic idles. After checked and replaced the map sensor, i've thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and ran the relearn process. however since the cleaning the trottle seems rather snappy/jerky? coming off throttle the engine seems to jerk/judder? like the butterfly valve is snapping shut? (which it obviously is)

Hi Lee/fellow Coventrian,
the jolting whilst using the throttle could be a knackered g/box mount... ive got the same thing and its on 'the list' of things to do.
when i say i 'lost CC Functionality', i have retrofitted Cruise Control, and since fitting the new ECU it hasnt worked. i have activated it in the ECU and the ECU recognises all the switch inputs but it fails to operate. im pretty certain its because of my 2.4 clocks i installed at the same time... i have an idea how to sort it, i just need to get round to doing it!
