Hey all ;)

So here's what's bothering me.

I want to get rid of the vibrations inside my car. It's a 2005 88kw 5d stilo.
I changed the gearbox mount which is about somewhere in the back of the battery with the genuine part, the one that was released in modified version in 2004-5-something.

Then i cleaned the MAP, and the air intake (by hand, personally to ensure jobs been done properly). MAf is welded to its housing so I have yet to fing a way to clean it too.

But to no avail, vibrations are still here. They are manifested by slight vibrations in the front seats, driving wheel, and armrest. Also doors and dashboard.
Vibration power is exactly the same on the cold morning with a cold engine ir the hot day and fully warmed up engine. Always the same. They are slight vibrations, nothing much, and YES, I know it's a diesel engine but I think thet my seat at least should not vibrate AT ALL.

I am gonna try to clean the injection system (mainly injectors themselves) with some aditive, and maybe at the local garage if I can aford it, but somehow I think it won't help.

I checked the right engine mount, the one by the windshield wipers reservoir, and it's not transferring any vibrations to the chassy. But the new left engine mount (part no. is 51711216) transfers some vibrations to the chassy.

So I ask you, what to do? Any ideas?

One update, although nobody cares :)

Vibrations seem to be caused by bad fuel injectors. Injection corrections on idle are pretty big. +2 | -1.2 | -1.7 | +1.2

that seems to be more than engine supports can take and the whole car shakes pretty bad as a result.

I have yet to find out if the simple cleaning will have any effect, or will I have to refurbish them. New ones are out of option. 4 injectors cost more than I earn in 3 months

To clean maf you need a maf cleaning aerasol and just remove the whole maf and spray through plastic mesh, i wouldnt bother doesnt sound like your issue.
Yes use injector cleaner , uou could run tank down and add a bottle to run very strong mix then add another bottle to a full tank after.
Have you tried eng off, remove the 4 injector plugs, spray into plug and into injector plug electrical contact cleaner and while wet reconnect and disconnect a few times to clean contacts in plug then open up and spray again to clear any bits, let dry and then reconnect again.
If you have the software check values again, i always do on warm engine at idle, on cold starts you tend yo see high values anyway.
If your 2 values were warm eng at idle, do valued drop closer to 0 as engine is reved up slowly to 2000revs.
Also if you have fes/mes you can try reset learned parameters or something like that.
Will relearn values for sensors etc.
I find i can have inj correction values around 2 and not notice anydifferance from running with values 0.5 etc
Had one up in the 5 range and it sounded like running on 3 cylinders really rough.

Hi I am new to this forum.
Thanks to all the experts with knowledge.
Is this injecture setting job an easy DIY job or is it a GOOD GARAGE job.????
Money is the problem so far.
Purchased fiat stilo 1.9 a few months ago.
I have bad vibrations while stationary. When driving and the revs are up the vibrations ease of or are not noticed. Had a new clutch fitted because clutch pedal was very stiff. Clutch pedal goes from being perfect on a small run to being dangerous when in town and constantly using the clutch pedal.
Also had a drain on the battery so before I knew what it was I bought a new battery.
Now have to have a switch fitted so when I turn of the engine I can manually turn of all power to the radio.
If I didnt have all these problems the car drives well.
The idle speed which is about 9.3 revs will pull the car along quite easily without the accelerator pedal being used. Does this mean anything.
Have I bought a load of trouble. lol
Any news gratefully received.
P S I have just ordered a CD manual to look at the pedal structure incase that is bent or something.
Thanks in advance

Ah ok im 16v jtdm
As for cleaning injector plugs with engine switchesd off
just remove engine cover find 4 injectors pull the little tab unplug connector and spray electrical contact cleaner in both halves.
Try no improvement nothing lost and not cost anything.

What about disconnecting battery 30-40 mins will that do a ecu reset and relearn parameters?
At idle does this vibration change at all by pressing clutch in .?

Can't do any harm trying (except loose any personal information stored on a Connect Nav+, if fitted). I've never needed to on mine so don't know if it will achieve anything.

It was Mark ( NumanR ) a Fiat EDET (European Dealer Expert Technician) that told me there's no relearn or reset on the 8 valve ECU.
.

Having suffered a fierce throttle response for some time on my 8v 1.9JTD & being berated by my dear wife for driving like a boy racer I tried out the following with what I believe is success.

4) Switch off
5) Repeat 1
6) Repeat 2

I have no idea what model the instructions were for but I swear the throttle response after executing the above was without a doubt much smoother!

whoa, bunch of replies in such a short time

ok, so...
sussexa: will try that trick with cleaning the contacts. thnx :)
Injector correction reading are off only while idle. I have MES, and I let it record values while driving (engine fully warmed up) and the corrections came almost to zero. 2 and 3 were something like 0.10-0.15, but I think that if I ran it for some more those would fall right into place also.
So problem is only while idle.
Consumption is pretty good too. While on highway, 4 of us in the car, at about 2000 rpm figure is 61 MPG (imperial), or about 4.6 L/100km which is awesome.

One thing I noticed in MES is the fuel quantity. Delivered quantity is less that expected value, but I'm not entirely sure. have to check it again, and I'll be posting the figure later today.
Davren: I have no CN fitted, so nothing to lose basicly, except date and time settings.
Peat: My problem is vibrations in idle. throttle response seems just fine. But, maybe I'll try it out just for the kicks, these days

Oh yeah, couple more things

MES says that the air quantity and air pressure is perfect. Only one decimal off, so even if MAf is a bit dirty it's certainly not the culprit.

Also, a while a go (2-3 weeks) I ran out of fuel on the road. Engine warning light came up, and car went off. Tried to start it 1-2 times, and decided better not to. So help came in, fuel was added and after 2 or 3 times car started just fine.
Don't get me wrong, vibrations were there before that, but I have a feeling they are stronger from that point on. Does it make any sense?

during logging, how many rpm does it vary by ?
does it stay within +/- 3 to 5rpm
ive looked back from an old log and rpm steady usually to within 1 or 2 rpm per second and total fuel varies by .01mm3 eg
idle and fuel stilo.png

wondering if vibration is able to be picked up via rpm up n down

well to be frank, it's stuck on 860 rpm. Sometimes it goes to 861, or 859 (rarely). Sounds like your MAP is a bit dirty :)

mine doesn't vibrate though, I find it hard to believe the engine is idling within 1 rpm and there is any sort of vibration due to engine running badly.
if it is that smooth an idle I think your back looking at mounts.
what about the one under the car in the middle where gearbox is supported.
I don't think map sensor will have any effect at idle
car just looks up idle speed request depending on engine temperature from a table then injects enough fuel to maintain that speed, and the injector correction factors are constantly adjusting very fine detail to keep the crank rotation speed even across the 4 cylinders

Gearbox mount is brand new, original Fiat with part number 51711216. Before that one I had the mount from the 1.8 petrol engine which actually worked better than this one.

One thing I noticed is, when i grab the chassy just around the gearbox moung I can feel the vibrations. But, when I grab the chassy around the right mount (the one closer to fuel filter and windscreen washer reservoir) there are no vibrations transferred. none at all.

So the gearbox mount transfers vibrations to the chassy. Is that your case also?

no I have no issues
I just remember gearbox mounts as a diagnosis for some vibrations
https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/198550-fiat-stilo-1-9-jtd-all-changing-gearbox-mount.html
were the vibrations worse straight after fitting this new mount?
can it be fitted wrong?
im sure I remember a thread where someone suggested slacking off the main mounting bolts to let mounting self center and then retighten?
don't take my word for it though im not mechanic.
wait for davren or others to confirm.
that links not the one I was thinking off there is another mount under the centre console area not sure what its called, stops the engine rocking.

Yeah, straight after the change. With the old mount steering wheel wasn't vibrating even when dead cold. Now it vibrates, and it's visually noticable.

I'm gonna check later today if all the bolts scuring the mount are tightened properly. but beyond that, I'm pretty much clueless.

If it's not a bother, could you check if you can feel the vibrations on the chassy right beside the gearbox mount?

have aread through this 5 pages
https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/178812-finally-rattle-gone-jtd-owners-read-here.html

there is a guy near the end and the center bolt was touching the metal couldn't get it centered not sure how it ended up, also there is a diagram with all mounts shown.

but I think you've self diagnosed,
the 1.8 mount may have been better vibration wise anyway as its said its softer but might not well last on a jtd.

Thanks. i read it all. Will try tomorrow to get the bolt off and see if the crew is centered or not. Might very well be the problem

Well whadiya know. Screw is not in the middle.
I have had my friend over today, with his 2004 Stilo JTD, and his engine works more smoothly. It is louder, but vibrates alot less and works more smoothly.
My engine shakes quite a bit and there is a knocking sound which coresponds to the chassy vibration pattern.

I'm running out of ideas here. I'll go to the garage that fitted the mount and have them center it
